Foundation Personnel File — Internal Addendum
Name: Dr. Elias Varn Clearance
Level: 3 clearence
Position: Thaumatologist
Status: Active Duty
Dr. Elias Varn is a typical Foundation researcher stationed at Site-65, where he primarily focuses on medical research. His responsibilities include helping with post-incident analyses, documenting the biological effects of anomalies, and providing research-based medical guidance to containment teams.
Before Incident 2295-VARN, Varn was seen as quite ordinary by Foundation standards—competent, reserved, and reliable in his work. He didn’t hold any command authority, had no special clearance beyond Level 3, and wasn’t directly involved in high-risk containment operations.
What set him apart was his willingness to volunteer for observational roles during medical procedures involving anomalies, especially those with restorative or healing properties.
Incident 2295-VARN
During a containment breach that left several personnel injured, SCP-2295 was called in for emergency treatment. With a shortage of medical staff, Dr. Varn was assigned as a documentation observer, responsible solely for recording SCP-2295’s actions and their outcomes.
As the procedure progressed, logs show that Varn became increasingly anxious as the situation for the casualties deteriorated. Despite clear orders not to intervene, he broke protocol.
Witnesses reported that Varn approached SCP-2295 and tried to help, placing his hands on both the entity and the injured subject at the same time. His reasoning afterward was straightforward:
Just moments later, a brief spatial distortion was noted. Cameras captured significant interference, and all monitoring equipment temporarily went offline.
Aftermath
When the systems finally came back online:
- All injured personnel had been stabilized.
- Several cases showed complete recovery from what could have been fatal trauma.
- SCP-2295 was inactive, sitting quietly near Dr. Varn.
Dr. Varn was found awake.
However, his head had been replaced with a makeshift, stitched-together fabric structure that looked like a teddy bear.
Medical & Anomalous Evaluation
Despite this bizarre transformation:
- Varn remained fully conscious and aware.
- He kept all his memories, knowledge, and personality intact.
- There were no signs of aggression or instability.
The head itself has some unusual characteristics:
- Made of fabric, stitching, and a stuffing-like material.
- Can speak, although the voice is a bit muffled.
- It can self-repair when damaged.
- It doesn’t seem to need biological functions like breathing or eating, though Varn insists he can still “feel” those things.
No surgical or anomalous method has been able to reverse this condition.
Current Role
After an internal review, the Foundation decided not to reclassify Dr. Varn as an SCP object. Instead, he continues as a regular researcher, albeit with some minor restrictions:
- He’s assigned only to research duties.
- He’s not allowed unsupervised interaction with SCP-2295.
- He must undergo regular psychological evaluations.
Despite the initial worries, Varn has managed to return to work with minimal disruption. Reports suggest he’s still performing his duties efficiently, although coworkers have mentioned feeling uneasy during extended interactions.
Behavioral Notes
Changes in behavior post-incident include:
- Increased silence and a tendency to isolate himself.
- An occasional fixation on injured personnel and their recovery reports.
- Subtle compulsive behaviors related to “fixing” minor damages (to objects, clothing, tools).
However, there’s been no observed hostile intent or containment risk.
Addendum — Research Note
While Dr. Varn doesn’t show the same level of anomalous healing that was noted during the incident, some minor effects have been observed:
- Small injuries near him seem to clot more quickly.
- Damaged materials he handles occasionally appear to be subtly “repaired.”

“I know how it looks. I know what I am. But I’m still a researcher… and there’s still work to do.”
