There comes a time in everyone’s life when it's time to move on, and for me, that time has come.
I joined this community back in April of 2022, coming across with several other Australians from another community. I liked it so much I decided to stay, joining staff in October of 2022. After joining staff, I slogged it up to Super, before becoming the first Australian to be a Community Supervisor. I have held RP roles as the Ethics Chairman and O5 and have done a lot in the RP sense. I even managed to teach the Americans how to say my name correctly. (Can-oon not Cannon)
In my time, I have gained the record as longest serving Community Supervisor (28 months!), and one of the longest serving staff members (Since October of 2022!) When I joined Staff, COVID-19 was still a big thing, You had to have priority join in order to get into the server during peak times, Floor 3 was this small area where O5 and EC fought over half a corridor, and GOC was not a thing at all. City RP, Rust and MRP were still around during those periods as well, with varying levels of success.
Some of my more memorable services to the role include:
- The redesign of Staff recruitment, including the role out of referral rewards;
- Death of the AOD;
- Resolution of a number of largescale conflicts in the player base
- Record holder for the most staff removed (48)
- Large amount of work to simplify SL members lives
- and so much more
Why?
I know when a NL member steps down, the first question that gets asked is why they are leaving. For me, the answer is simple. Throughout my time as a Super, and later as a Community Supervisor, I have consistently reenforced in the staff team that if you don’t have the time to do the position, you should step aside so that someone that does have the time, can do the job. For me, that time has arrived.
My real-life responsibilities have taken up most of the time, and looking forward, it is likely going to get worse, not better. I can’t justify forcing the other NL members to take my responsibilities whilst I sit idle in the role.
By taking this path, I become one of a select few NL members who gets to leave on their own terms and on their own time, rather than being stood down. It also means no more 4am meetings for me
As always, everyone wants to know the special mentions. As you can imagine, given my 4 years on the server, I have a few.
NL Team past and present.
Ventz - Many thanks for the opportunity to serve as a CS in the community.
Yeke – the glue that is keeping the community moving forward. Thank you for the many opportunities over the years. I generally believe that you have been one of the key features in keeping the servers going through all the triumphs and turmoils.
Bear, Auburn and Snake – My current NL buddies. I have watched each of you develop into the role, and I’m proud that you will continue where I have left. Keep up the good fight!
Ellie and Rushi – My NL promotion buddies. While it has been a while since you both fell, I do miss our late-night crisis meetings and the banter we use to have.
Reuqis – Because I can’t forget you. Whilst you were only with us for a short time, you made an impact on the team. I won’t miss the car noises during the NL meeting however
Special Mentions:
Kufie, Derek, Court and Bear – Game nights are still on Hopefully this time I’ll have more time
McMuffin, World, Raixin and Tech Noah (or whatever you go by now) – All four went peacefully into the night, but we still miss you!
Kore and Starling - Your memes in the Canoon Meme thread were definitely one of the highlights. Thank you for all the laughs! I have posted some of my favorites below
Thorn and Rowling - My HMOD slayer apprentices. You must keep up the slayings. The HMODs must know no peace.
Jacob and the other developers - Thank you for all the hard work, and the laughs over the years
Green - My staff trainer, many thanks for staying up late so that training could be done
Jules -One of the best RPers I've ever known, and someone that could always be counted on to make great RP moments.
Abbie - Another Aussie ECM, and always good to work with.
The supers, past and present - With the exception of a very select few (who were demoted and banned), I am proud of how you all turn out. What a lot of people don’t realize is the level of stress an NL member has when they promote a Super, and for the most of you, I don't have any regrets. Thanks for the laughs and the memes over the years.
SL members - one of the hardest roles in the staff team, you are the middle manager of the CN community, doing a lot of the hard day to day work. Many thanks for your hard work and keep up the good work!
Staff and GMs, past and present - For the staff members and GMs that I have worked with over the past 4 years, many thanks for hard work that you have put in, and for the laughs. There have been hundreds of you over that time, and regardless of if you served one day, or 1000, you all made an impact to the community.
My O5 and ECM buddies (All 30+ of you over the time) - To the various O5 and ECM buddies I have served with on Ethics and O5 over the years, thank you for the laughs, and the occasional late-night stress. I do miss our banter with each other, and whilst most of you have left, for those that remain, I wish you the best
MRP boys and more particularly, the ISAF boys - Many thanks for making me feel welcome when I started as a CS and was looking into how MRP was running. IT was good to get that experience, some of which i brought over to SCP with some of the MRP toys Never expected to make RSM .
Everyone else
I could go on and on and name people (and forget some that will make me sad) , but for those that I’ve worked with over the years, in various roles an in various situations, thank you for the memories.
Whilst I will still be in the discords, I won't be seen often in the servers or on the forums. My RP characters are being reassigned to a new site, and may make a return someday in the future, If I come back to activity.
