The state of RP

I will just quote something from "The state of the Server".

"classic, another 'the state of the server' "

On serious note tho: The state of RP is bad yeah but you can't change it. It's too late unless you get whole community + staff team to improve it, it's already too late like i said. 4 years and ya did nothing, 2 years and ya stil did nothing.

You can't break status quo without making radical changes and im not talking on polshit level, im talking about on server RP status quo level. The RP and content are on progress that is already made by NL/Content Team that you can't change via simple suggetion. 3 years for waiting of S-9 and what we get? 1 year after MRP and what we get? A noticed wound that is keeps being bandged but keeps bleeding.

If people stopped treating it like vrchat, flooding shit with policy to make it seem like they are doing something and suffocate rp consequences and having SL properly enforce mixing, it would solve said issue.

It is too engrained on UK.

Good luck though
Cant speak for the rest of the server, but RSD recently introduced Specializations under my supervision and the whole thesis of the idea is that there is no restriction get started.

Pick something and go, I am hoping it will be a boon for RSD RP

i think people in MTFs care too much about time tracking rather than roleplay. 6 hours a week is ~52 minutes a day btw. Some people dont spend that much time in the gym btw. This promotes people who have too much time but arent doing stuff vs people who have no time but wanna do stuff. Speaking from a very biased and selfish standpoint btw.

I should clarify, this isnt a problem with a single MTF but rather server culture as a whole.

Hi i'm new, I just did my first test as a d-boy after 15 hours of collecting scrap, there was finally a scientist in the testing line. We went to the candy bowl and my hands fell off and I died. I got on scientist to do my own tests then I got my head exploded by a disguised d-boy 7 times in a row in my spawn so he could get my keycard. I got on guard and I stood in the airlock for 3 hours and held M1 when a d-boy came in. I notice all the MTF don't talk to anyone, they just stand above medbay and chat in OOC, what are they in some kind of third party voice chat software? When does the RP start?

When the hyperbole is just bole

I disagree!
Now speaking as Ex-E11 LTCOM, E11 has always protised making RP rather than just sit still and do nothing and this is still going to this day, I've seen E11 NCOs and COs tell people to do somethign instead of standing idle at bunks or even worse... fucking around in bunks and RDMing each other.

Nu-7 Wise, well their gameplay loop is combat, that is their RP, while it might not fit what you(am not targting you specficcly cloudly I mean anyone reading this) call RP, it is still in fact RP, example: Some people don't consider arrests RP, while ISD does, I do think this is the biggest example of, "If you think its useless, its not for you" as Nu-7 would be very annoyed dead and unplayed if Combat was brought to a bare minuime, this does not mean all Nu-7 does is combat, I've seen many of them particpate in storylines that include GoIs and treasoners, but these depend on GMs and they aren't able to host those 24/7.

Everyone is going to hate me for saying this but, I think Nu7/DEA should merge into just Nu7 so surface RP can be more expansive (oh god the pitchforks am going to die), that would fix what many people call surface being just combat, as merging them would allow for 1) Nu-7 to still exist as a combative regiment and 2) get the more RP focused duties of DEA and more players of varity would be in Nu-7.

AO, AO heavily depend on FCOM as a whole for RP, while AO CO's can of course make their own, they'd still need it to be secondery to protecting Fcom and Assistants, am a very big anti-FCOM and pro-make Site Admin a larger department so very large bias here of course.
Like AO secondery opertions are mostly looking into other people and those well, depend on people specfic being on, while E11 have something like Work with medical to examine SCPs, or overview tests, these don't depend on a single person/persons so they aren't very limited, AO is, they need to wait for X person to get on and do Y thing and its just a very large waiting game.

No hate to any regiments, I do think they are all very improtant for this servers very fragile balance, but I do think if time was turned back a diffirent approach to regiments should of been taken.

Departments share a smilier issue to this btw

overall, I think the state of RP could be better and is abit bad rn, but the solution was "Plant a tree 20 years ago" type thing and right now we just need to ensure we don't hurt the somewhat stable state it is in currently, I say stable because this server still has RP and still reachs max pop easily.

I'm fairly sure that 6 hours is actually 6 hours
i hate you and i hope your favorite character in an ongoing series dies.
cloudly
Nu7/DEA should merge into just Nu7
YES. 100% AGREE. The fact that there is a regiment in an RP server that is focused on combat is mind-boggling. Merge them and their duties please!
AO is, they need to wait for X person to get on and do Y thing and its just a very large waiting game.
100% agree and this is one of my biggest annoyances with AO.

I am not gonna lie, max pop was much more common like 5 months ago than it is now. I dont have access to the analytics but I think the server is suffering from people leaving. Moreover, a lot of major people left or resigned. What I think is happening, is that it's not the server structure and content that is keeping it alive, but the community who is very welcoming. The fact that you are with a group of people, working together in a department makes it such a brighter place. The server would not be able to start over without the already established community imo.

[Insert CJ walking down an alleyway meme]

Sigh.. again this topic rears its head and it it always the same thing "no one roleplays" "its staffs fault" "its the lack of content" etc.

These threads really confuse me on the account that, people look for every outside influence to blame before people realising that this is GMOD, not FiveM that has infinite amounts of things to do due to map scale, animations, jobs etc on modern engines, whereby we are working on an engine older than some of our players.

The thing with RP is simply, you HAVE to make your own RP, you cannot rely on everyone else, we can implement systems, but we CANNOT RP for you, after all this is not twitch.tv, you join the server to roleplay not watch someone else RP, people are constantly like freaking out about the state of RP then stand in a hallway and go "why should I try" or "I've done this before so why should I bother" and its simply just a shit mindset, I wont mince my words as I wont lie I am tired of seeing the threads and people then blame everyone else but never internalise it themselves, this is how I use to think when I started my journey in CN, when I was DoIA, I blamed the players for not wanting to RP before realising that I am the problem and not creating it for myself, which thanks to @elad calling me out on my shit helped me enjoy myself more.

I hear things constantly on the grape vine that there are so many Anti-RP policies/procedures from everyone, and also then I have the crowd that goes "OH Combat and RP cant co-exist" (bullshit btw), so here I will list a few things I constantly hear, but due to the fact I'm extremely busy I don't get time to investigate them.

  1. Research constantly requiring 400 levels of signatures and approvals to roleplay and if they do not get a signature they get job banned as a first result (Stop job banning people for minor shit, let them break IC rules and also stop with the stupid amount of signatures required)
  2. E-11 constantly leaving blastdoors closed 24/7 so people cant enter HCZ (Stop it, I do not care if you are undermanned, ask Site Admin to help supply other departments or security staff, this is literally what they are for, I do not care for these "agreements of sovereignty" that prevent working together)
  3. Site Admin / FCOM constantly adding google doc policies and spending more time reading google docs than engaging in RP on their own server, or dealing with discord DMs like they are SSL, easy solution here, for the policies, start reducing them, we do NOT need 4000 morblillion policies to why you cant simply have fun, or you cant go to the cafeteria or its treason (or some other BS), also put down the danm google docs, and enjoy things that are in front of you, I know of people that literally get CL4+ positions that go "I don't want to RP, I jsut enjoy doing Google Docs, and tbf i might actually start demoting people with that attitude who are obsessed with google docs and not roleplaying. AND then we have the constant discord obsession of handling everything OOCLY, I had to tell @Broda this and it worked wonders for him but simply, if people are dming you constantly out of character, ask them to seek you in-game and discuss it rather than getting mad at staff because you cant tell people to not dm you whilst you are playing other games then moaning we are a "full time job" that people self impose.
  4. CI have to learn that not everything needs a bullet to the head, and also its ok to lose an engagement and doesnt need an OOC fanfare or creating 400 staff tickets to make people afraid to RP with you so you win every engagement.
  5. Constant obsession for "Rule play" needs to stop, our rules are there to help with creating a cohesive and appropriate atmosphere, yes some rules are going to clash, but guess what, staff have the ability and discretion to ignore rule breaks if it helps improve the RP and doesn't cause issues (this does not apply to mixing before people are like "i wanna turn this into VR chat and talk about IRL stuff")
  6. People need to remember, you are ROLEPLAYING a CHARACTER and NOT YOURSELF, so people need to stop getting so danm offended and bringing everything out of character and then personally having beef with people because something you don't like happened IC, yeah its hard, most of us are autistic or neurodivergent (lets be real) but everyone has to realise, unless they are literally talking out of character, then shits not personal and stop looking for ways to pain yourselves as victims because ISD arrested you for violating a policy or AO kidnapped you so you now end up hating them. (Also a ISD arrest is meaningless, it literally doesnt matter if you are arrested IC, if you are getting arrested IC, its just a mechanic)
  7. Teamwork, the server is created to bring people together to work as a team, however all I see is people trying to find reasons to isolate themselves and push others away then wonder why no one bothers to RP with them, get out of your vacuum bubble and actually work with other departments etc rather than going "Nah i dont wanna work with GSD, they are minges" then wondering why you have no one new interacting.
  8. Obsession with calling everything a minge just because you dont like it - STOP and think, maybe are you just being sour because YOU do not like the Roleplay, and people wont like this, but RP is suppose to have goofy moments and the best goofy RP you will probably have is with those you call "minges" for example, when I was DoIA I had a researcher constantly break the code of ethics, its all he did, I enjoyed the RP with the dude hunting him down and arresting him even if it was the 900th time that week, but research hated him and kept trying to job ban him for months at a time for literally not following the CoE, yet he did the one thing many others couldnt and thats pull the DoR of the time out of their offices to interact with people... Moral of the story, stop calling everyone a minge because the roleplay doesn't fit your world view of Roleplay, enjoy the goofiness and stop finding ways to job ban people because you don't wanna talk to them, when they are literally giving your Free RP and people are just in a huff because a Tech Expert has broke into HCZ x4 or has sent a grenade up a chute to O5-4s office.
  9. Obsession with playtime and then blaming staff that we "force people to work on their GJOB", the ideal playtime that is acceptable is minimum 1 day playtime in a week (providing thats not AFK and actually engaging in RP).
  10. CL5 Burnout, CL5 roles are not made with the intent of needing to be on your role ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, you can believe it or not, go enjoy other jobs, the envisionment of CL5 was to be; Go on, do your RP, once done and nothing else going on, go play another job for a bit and break it up.
  11. Obsession with "I cant RP in a breach" or "I cant RP during a CI raid" - so I have two parts to this, part 1: Yes you can RP, if they arent in the room you are in, of course you can roleplay, just many people get pissy and go "aight time to fire up roblox" then they end up afking for longer than the breach and they then blame the breach for the RP despite the fact they missed the chance to RP by tabbing out and playing roblox rather than engaging in game with the people they can engage with, I see constantly SCPs try to preserve major RP loops such as meetings and that by leaving them alone and the funnies thing is people STILL blame the SCP (or CI) who are nowhere near you.

Part 2: FCOM / Site Admin need to actually co-ordinate the site during these events to help out and reduce the impact of breaches and raids by co-ordinating units, turning on FSL, Turning on/off teslas when a breach is happening and is over, sending other units to assist (AO for example, stop sitting in the CCTV room, y'all are a MTF, not fuckin cast members on goggle box), now I have heard this has improved but if I know people, they still hold this same attitude then moan these breaches / raids go on for so long then half our fighting force is eating popcorn watching 2 E-11 solo a CI raid or a breach... then have the gall to shit on E-11 for struggling (have seen this BTW)
  12. And my final point that I mentioned above ROLEPLAY STARTS WITH YOU, do not sit there and expect RP to come to you, its a two way street, this isn't fivem, we arent going to have James Randal or Eugene come into the server and give you RP (Though half of you would call them minges), you have to actually want RP and seek it out whilst creating it yourself, talk to people, greet them in the halways, treat people with respect, have fun, just stop nitpicking at everyone RP not being up to your standards.

    Rant over...

Or so you thought i had an extra point and i cba formatting it.

13. ISD, Stop max timing everyone, if they engage with you in RP, and have decent interrogations and don't just become belligerent assholes, then time serve them if the RP went on long enough or reduce sentences, it acts as a reward for engagement, the reason you all get shit on so much is you just arrest people max time because you can, also remember you can issue alternate punishments, such as have a guy write an apology document, scrub the toilets or whatever, its RP, we don't have to be arresting everyone for everything and we can simply, give stern roleplay warnings etc or let people off, have a laugh, its RP and people who give you good RP shouldn't be punished by being slapped in jail for 30 mins after literally giving you engaging RP just because it says "recommended time", use your brains, you are not robots.
14. SCP Wiki - Stop obsessing over every little part of the SCP wiki, guess what, the SCP universe is creative, we do not need to follow this to the T and we do not need people acting like reddit mods going "UUUUH ACKTUALLLY YOU WOULDNT DO THAT BECAUSE YOUD GET SHOT BY THE O5" or some random shite, the wiki is there as an aide not a hard rule of how everything can go, we can deviate and provide different roleplay that contradicts the wiki, because guess what, its not written in stone and we do not have to follow it to the T.

Ok rant over this time, but for the love of god, please just have fun, I am not sorry for not mincing my words, but i have been to kind and polite and people seem to ignore what I say then start trying to deconstruct things to fit their narratives and I am beyond tired of constantly having to point out these issues and then people still go "lol blame staff" or "blame lack of content" when servers with less content have more RP with less.

Aight signing off code brown.

What you just described is literally ARDM. And breaking the non-combative rule. That's not people being in a huff over RP they don't like, that's blatantly and explicitly against the server rules
Ah here comes the person to prove my point about deconstruction.

however, to send a grenade up a chute it would have to be de-activated and not armed, but it was just an example of things, that people go "UH MINGE" then moan, like dude can you just read something and take it as an example rather than contorting to like try and grandstand?

I thought you meant a live grenade icl. If it's not live, then yeah, that's just an ISD issue.
