Civilian name: Brandon Cole

Have you received any kicks/bans/warning? and why?: N/A

What makes you the best candidate for Ethics Committee Assistant?: I believe that I am the best candidate for Ethics Committee Assistant due to my ability to view issues on a neutral perspective, my ability to remain composed under pressure and scrutiny, as well as my strong understanding of the Foundation Legal Codex and the Code of Ethics. While not my original goal, as I continued to play on this server, I grew increasingly fond of the idea of joining Ethics, even if only as an assistant. While I understand that my knowing of certain topics within the server isn’t complete, I have learnt invaluable information about the universe over my weeks in this server. My former role in Nu-7 has taught me a large amount about the foundation’s operations, how whitelisted/MTF roles work, as well as authorisation of advanced armoury equipment, which is able to be carried out by the highest-ranking CL4 personnel on site if any MTF REGCOM is not on site.

My recent position in ISD has also aided me in learning the FLC, how tribunals are requested, as well as how CL3 and under personnel interact with ECA and other ethics members. This insight into how people interact with Ethics, as well as how EC members are expected to act in turn I believe make me one of the most suitable candidate for Ethics Committee Assistant.

What are the responsibilities of Ethics Committee Assistants in RP?: While there are many duties of an ECA, the main is to represent the Ethics Committee, remain professional and approachable while doing so, and setting a positive example to other staff on site. Ethics Assistants are also expected to ensure that guidelines such as the CoE and the FLC are being followed at all times on site. This includes how anomalies, especially sentient ones, are handled, how D-class are treated by GSD and Research, as well as how other staff interact with each other.

Assistants are also expected to carry out the duties of CL4 personnel, especially if any other CL4 is off site. This can range from closing blast doors in the event of a Code 1 or Code 5, to authorisation of AA equipment for Mobile Task Force units if no MTF commanders are on site. However, above all else, an ECA is expected to carry out any orders given to them by the Ethics committee, as well as watching over any operations that are being carried out by ISD or Ethics.

Please give some lore about your Ethics Committee Assistant character and what storylines they would be involved in: Caswell Berry was born in Long Beach, CA. From many family and friends, he seemed to fit the stereotypical ‘overachiever’ archetype very well. High grades throughout elementary, middle, and high school, a deep interest and abnormal skill level in computer science landing him with a scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley.

In 2019, he was scouted by the foundation for his skills in cybersecurity, landing him with a junior IT specialist role in Site-14. Berry quickly pointed out many flaws within the foundation’s SCiPNET system, causing him to consistently be working with personnel of higher clearance level. This consistent work optimising the SCiPNET system for site-14 caused him to quickly rise through the ranks of the E&TS department at site-14.

Berry was re-assigned as a researcher Site-65, one of many new personnel on site. While Berry did take some time adjusting to the change in roles, he seemed to be very suited to his role as a researcher, more so than an E&TS worker. He was recognised by research and ISD for his strong views against malpractice in testing. The quality of his work gained the recognition of the Ethics Committee members stationed at Site-65, who are currently scouting him for the position of Ethics Committee Assistant.
