What Ethics Committee role are you applying for, and why:

I’m applying for the Ethics Committee Member role. I’ve been in Site Administration for a good amount of time, and I feel like my stay there, combined with my time as an ECA, has given me the right experience and understanding of the higher roles to step up. I’ve had this role as something I always tried to be and I enjoyed being a person people can approach and ask for help whenever they needed my advice or roleplay-creation. Becoming an Ethics Committee Member is the natural progression from my current interests and position, the role combines everything I’m good at, leadership, oversight, administration, creating roleplay for others and engaging with others.

What makes you the best candidate for the Ethics Committee?:

I believe I’m a strong candidate for the Ethics Committee because I understand how both the OOC and the IC sides of the server need to work together. During my time in Site Administration I have reworked/created many site policies (employment hearings, posters, tb uitilization, interview documents) that improved how roleplay was being made while also creating roleplay, it has also taught me how to communicate with different departments and regiments, how to handle dramas effectively. Working behind the scenes and on-site has also shown me how important my presence is on site, because without it my roleplay creation and understanding of whats happening capabilities are limited.

I have learned that the FLC cannot be applied as a blunt instrument. My time in ISD as Inspector has taught me that true justice requires interpreting the intent behind an action, whether its an arrest or a tribunal. I have also learned that judgement is required when enforcing the FLC, rather than simply following rules word for word as they may not mean the same thing in two different situations. When it comes down to it, I rely on the facts without any bias. My time dealing with sensitive drama, sorting out conflicts, and working directly with all sorts of personnel as SA, ECA and ISD has definitely prepared me for this position because I got to experience them from so many sides.

I am currently a Senior Assistant in the Ethics Committee which has allowed me to observe how Ethics Members approach difficult situations, balance roleplay with server health to maintain a fair and enjoyable enviroment. Working closely with the Committee has given me insight into how decisions are made, how problems are approached, and what is expected from an Ethics Committee Member. While being an Assistant I tried engaging with O-1, help them with trainings, PoI’s, investigations and generally just trying to create roleplay they could actually engage in, for example helping them with PoI’s, giving them ideas what they could do.

Finally, I am not applying simply because I want to progress for the sake of it. The Ethics Committee has been my long term goal and something I wanted to improve since I joined the server and I have always enjoyed the type of roleplay and responsibility that comes with it, thats why I was an SA. I aim to help ECA’s as they don’t get the engagement they need, I believe some ECAs would benefit from guidance and practical experience, which I’m currently trying to give them as an assigned mentor, particularly when it comes to tribunals (which means mock tribunals), as of now they only get a document and are expected to do good in leading of the tribunal. I would also like to encourage closer interaction between the Ethics Committee and lower ranking personnel. A more visible and approachable Ethics Committee would strengthen its image as a department that is concerned with everyone, ECA’s are supposed to be the first point of contact between personnel and the Ethics Committee. They should be approachable, professional, and visible around the site, they are the first person that gets concerns, questions, or needs to provide feedback. ECAs should represent the Committee on a day-to-day basis by interacting with departments, gathering information, assisting with investigations, and handling tribunal cases. Finally, I believe Omega-1 should be involved in ECA-led roleplay more frequently. They could assist them during investigations, assist with interrogations and they could use some cross-orders between Omega-1 and ECA’s. From what I’ve seen, Assistants don’t feel confident enough to give Omega-1 any orders, not even escorts.. this would not only give Omega-1 more opportunities to be engaged in roleplay but also create a stronger bond between ECA’s and O-1.

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?:
The Ethics Committee are the people who draw the line between what is necessary and what is excessive, ensuring that the Foundation remains "cold, not cruel." While the Foundation protects humanity, the Committee protects The O5 Council from itself by only allowing actions that are necessary to follow the mission statement. They also oversee the O5 Council's actions whether they have gone onto the wrong path and if they do, the Committee is to advise and make requests before completely intervening.

The Longest Lie
The Committee maintains their image to be known as a CL4 administrative body which does meaningless human resources work and that image must stay no matter what happens, this being the ‘longest lie’. If the truth regarding the Committee's true authority and what they are able to do were to be leaked, it would compromise their ability to operate. To prevent it from happening, they utilize Omega-1 to track down infoleaks and stop the spread of sensitive information before it reaches anyone.

The FLC
The Ethics Committee is responsible for managing the FLC and ensuring its being properly uphold and enforced within the Site, they have the power to vote on changes on FLC. Its used as a main tool in ensuring no resources are being misused and that everything stays professional.

ISD
They also appoint and manage Directors of Internal Security, ensuring that they and their department are enforcing the FLC while also following it.

Ethics Committee Assistants
They review Assistant applications and oversee/manage them after being accepted. This includes guiding them through their duties, ensuring they understand their own role and creating orders for them that would make them engage with the Site.

Tribunals
The Ethics Committee holds the right to organize tribunals for people detained by ISD that believe they cannot be arrested due to lacking evidence or violations. The Ethics Committee Members can oversee those tribunals ensuring there is no bias towards a side and that everything is going according to the manual.

Omega-1
The Ethics Committee is responsible for overseeing and directing Omega-1, ensuring the regiment remains active, disciplined, and capable of carrying out the Committee's orders.

Primary Action
In situations where the O5 Council is believed to be acting against the Foundation’s interests, the Ethics Committee has the authority to initiate a vote regarding the use of primary action against all of the Council or selected members, this is later enforced by MTF Omega-1.

CL4 Duties
Like all CL4 personnel, the Committee is responsible for authorising actions such as Advanced Armoury, Emergency Response Teams, mass Class-D termination, and other Foundation-wide authorisations when required.

Alpha Warhead
In the case of roleplay being impossible to do because of a Code 5 or 008 breach, as CL5 personnel they have the right to activate the Alpha Warhead when needed.

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee out of RP (e.g. what applications do they handle?):
They review applications for:

Ethics Committee Member
Ethics Committee Assistant
Director of ISD

They appoint the following positions:

Omega-1 COM

-

They need to make sure that RP standards are being maintained, while also ensuring to communicate with SSL and the rest of FCOM about changes that could have impact on the server’s health

Please give some lore about your Ethics Committee character and what storylines they would be involved in:

Your attitude out of character hasn't been great whenever I've seen you. Although you can 100% change I want to leave a note that should be seen by the people deciding if they will accept or deny. If you want any information please message me on discord - inone

This is unhealthy VTime, do not get addicted to the server as I and others have in the past.

Not sure why you went on about the FLC here as Ethics don't really enforce the FLC as that is up to ISD and an ECM would just send Ethics based changes on the FLC around to the rest of Ethics and see if they agree on the change that's about it.

So do you have any other plans for O1? Here you just state that it would give them more RP to do because they are being lead by ECAs in RP scenarios and mainly go on about ECAs and how O1 should engage with them more. @'Clank'

The Ethics Committee is responsible for managing the FLC and ensuring its being properly uphold and enforced within the Site, they have the power to vote on changes on FLC. Its used as a main tool in ensuring no resources are being misused and that everything stays professional.
Kind of true, they manage the Ethics section of the FLC, not the rest. They do not enforce it around the site. They have the power to vote on FLC changes under the Ethics section, not the rest.

You completely gave up here Nikolai. They do a lot more than just this.

I think you also sold here, this lore is very very bare bones especially for an ECM application.

- Active, although it is an egregious amount.
- Has alright reasons for being the best candidate.
- Has alright experience.

- Seems to be a bit confused on the Committee's involvement with the FLC.

- Basically did nothing for the OOC duties question.
- Bare bones lore.
- I know you have had concerns regarding your OOC behavior.
- Unsure if you are actually ready for the role of FCOM.

Note: Don't get me wrong Nikolai you're an alright dude but I think you kind of sold with this app. And I BEG you stop playing as much as you are now, I played that much before and I got an addiction to the server which gave me so many negatives IRL so for your own good play less. I reckon someday you will make a good ECM just not yet. With that I will leave a -Support.

Although I still do wish you the best of luck, Nikolai.

Apologies Linkletter but I do not believe you would make a good ECM from what i see currently. You were a poor Site Advisor, when you were DEA liaison in may you barely engaged with us at all, and I cannot for the life of me recall something you did as it.

In addition this application is lacking on the finer details of the Committee and FCOM. Both your IC and OOC sections read like footnotes added on after, ISD deserve more then one line of acknowledgement in IC duties- They are the Committees eyes and ears. And ensuring Roleplay standards is mentioned so briefly on your application when it is infact a key duty of being Site Admin and Site Command.

I wish you luck in the future, improvement is always possible.

| Subject: | Reassignment request verdict |

Good evening Dr. Edward Linkletter,

I hope this email finds you well.
I send you this email today to inform you of the verdict regarding your request for reassignment to a seat on the Ethics committee. Know that the position you have applied for is not a single step, but a large leap from your current position.
But to avoid pointless one sided conversation, your request has been respectfully

Denied.

Don’t take this as a form of discouragement, see it as more of a chance to prove me wrong in denying you this seat in the committee. There will always be another chance.
For a more in depth feedback list, please reach out to me over external communications.

“ Don’t disappoint me. “
-Ethics member Alexandria Roselle
