When I first started playing the server, I did not take it seriously; I used to mess about a lot of the time. However as I continued playing I found a lot of fun in serious roleplay, being able to fully access my creative side and express my love of SCP within that. Obviously I have changed since then and I instead take the server relatively seriously, and I wish to continue to do so.

Why are you applying for Director of Research?
Three weeks ago I decided to leave the server in order to better myself and to fix my personal issues, now I am back and sincerely regret my mistake of abandoning my post. I understand I should have simply put in a long LOA, however life got the better of me, regardless I have found time to return back to the server and to continue serving the research department. In this application I simply wish to reiterate why I think I could once again hold such a position, as well as mention some of the experience which I can bring with me.

I am applying for the position of Director of Research as I wish to manage the research department once again. I did not finish the projects which I started, which I also regret. I wish to continue my work, and continue on projects for the department which I think will improve its overall current situation. I want to bring back the order that it once somewhat had, I want to once again rule with an iron fist, making important and executive decisions with an excellent logical analysis in support.

I go back once again to my original wish for the research department; utilise the creative potential. The SCP foundation as a whole has so much potential that is simply under-explored, and with my knowledge I wish to bring this potential to the research department once again. I want to allow those passionate about SCPs to access the utilities and resources they need through my leadership. I wish to re-ignite the creative side of research once more, with complex projects, story lines and relationships with departments, and most importantly give the general research populous all they need to perform the best research possible.
What makes you suitable for Director of Research?
To begin with I believe I am able to produce excellent work when it is necessary, for example the research department website which I took a lot of care to produce. Another point would be that I am an excellent leader, and when push comes to shove I am always prepared, once again, being able to rule with an iron fist if necessary. I already have plenty of experience within the Director of Research role, as I only resigned around a month ago and simply wish to return. I will allow people to make their own judgments of how they thought I was as Director of Research.

I can also deal well with any challenges brought to me, whether that be pressure from other departments or dealing with internal issues on any level. I have proven myself multiple times within this role to be capable of such. When I was a Director I aimed to improve interdepartmental relationships, even creating a section on the research Trello to track the current status of the relationships with each department. If I was to once again get Director, I will continue to improve relations, as I truly believe it is vital for all departments to put differences aside and to work efficiently as one team for the foundations ultimate goals.

I also wish to mention my knowledge of the SCP wiki is relatively extensive, as I give plenty of time to reading articles and lore throughout my day to day life, this gives me almost an escape into a fictional world, which I adore due to it how it deals with authority and the anomalous (the basis of SCP). I can easily apply this knowledge in the creative environment that is the research department. This time around I believe I will be able to fully introduce the specialist system, which will aid any researcher wishing to specialise into a field to do so. Lastly, my analytical prowess can understand any situation within the foundation, this can aid me in updating any legislature within the research department and also aid me in understanding what needs changing or updating in general. For example, my unfinished project, First Contact Protocol; the aim of these protocols was to enable researchers to effectively investigate and analyse novel anomalies (GM events). This would massively aid documentation of the anomalies while also increasing the roleplay potential by simultaneously challenging the gamemasters to create events that are more complex.


What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?
1st: managing the department; this is done in several ways:
First managing the executive applications and the executives that are currently in place. When doing executive applications it is vital to gather many opinions from your current executives and other research staff, as they will literally be working within the same team that helps decide whether they get executive or not. Secondly managing the executives in place on an individual level; Ensuring that they are on top of their activity and performance, while helping them solve any issues or inquiries that they may have. In reverse fashion, it is also vital to sort out any issues that the executives cause themselves. This is vital as the reputation of the department plays a major part in interdepartmental relations. Similarly, you cannot have those with constant problems holding a level four position (for obvious reasons).

Secondly, managing the roleplay of the department; This is done through meetings with other factions and departments. One thing that can be done is a joint-research project or perhaps aiding a department with any issues that may arise from their side, that research can help in fixing or improving. Similarly, helping gamemasters with their events is vital, as senior positions are held accountable to create the best roleplay possible for the gameplay loop of the server.

Thirdly, updating legislature and creating useful documents in accordance with the changing roleplay environment of the server. As updates are being rolled out by server leadership, it is important to update and add any necessary legislature and research guides respectfully. The aim is to maximise the potential for roleplay within the general populous of research, and through this, it is possible to enable just that.

Fourthly, handing out punishments such as research bans and warnings in accordance to relative severity of the infraction. This is a small point, however much self explanatory. Executives will also need to be taught how to correctly distribute punishments also.

Fifthly, carrying out orders from site administration, the ethics committee, and the overseer council (of course since they rule from the shadows, this may not happen as often.) It should be very clear that orders from higher ups should be carried out to the highest discretion, diligence and to an appropriate relative scale.

2nd: keeping departmental / interdepartmental / factional relations healthy and sustainable:
It is critically vital to maintain healthy relations with as many departments and factions as possible, as collaboration is what makes the foundation great. Research is the basis of the SCP foundation, so it is important to hold relations with all those who enable us, the researchers, to be the absolute best that we can be. Other factions, such as GOC, present a great opportunity for research driven collaboration as their entire faction is dedicated to roleplay. This however all needs to be managed carefully so as to not upset departments that may dislike one another or factions that may have disagreements with some of the foundations practices.

Keeping healthy relationships within the research department is also vital, as such I also made a section in the research Trello named "Proficient Research Staff", which literally allows members of research command to label researchers who they see as proficient within the department. This allows us to reduce the disconnect of higher positions within the department, allowing us to seem more accessible and approachable by the general research populous. Communication between all levels will always be vital and should be upkept and encouraged to the highest degree.

sustainability is also important, as short term deals and agreements can be exploited, especially if they benefit one side's goals and visions. Long term deals, with peaceful leave requirements are ultimately the best. Relationships must be sustainable so they do not fall apart immediately after a contract term is broken. Dynamic relationships that stay fluctuating within the positive spectrum would also be majorly preferred (should be possible with the above mentioned contract style.)

3rd: Upkeeping roleplay to the highest degree:
Another obvious point is to keep roleplay to the best that it can be, this should be done on all levels. The research department is one of the more creative environments available on the server and it should be utilised to the max. For example (also mentioned in the March review), group research projects. How this worked was very simple, an executive would carry out an experiment and would involve lower clearance members that can aid the executive in some way, or simply be present and observe the experiment as a demonstration of excellence.

Interactions with gamemasters is also a vital part to maximising the roleplay within the environment. They literally create roleplay through the events that they create and having a senior position discuss events with them pertaining to a department (in this case research) can create interesting storylines within the department while enhancing the excitement within the environment, roping in more players into the gameplay loop.

My specialist system will also aim to enable the general research populous to specialise and therefore create excellent roleplay armed with the knowledge that we provide them with. Specialists will also be logged in a general spreadsheet to allow anyone who wants to use their speciality to access them. This allows gamemasters and research command to create more interesting roleplay, once again on more levels than just those of the highest within the department.

O5-1: The extent of how much he knows or should know is unknown, by which process his intelligence is utilised better within his capacity is unknown. Nothing is bloody known, the whole idea of the foundation is to find out, yet we cannot even understand a simple research executive. We are expending resources to an increasingly high amount, even sending out -5, a fucking council member, to investigate this. And for what? He will not ever threaten our power, he is a researcher at the end of the day, he may be pissed and vengeful if he found out what I think he did.
O5-2: I am prepared for the end, as of course a stoic must look on the situation objectively, not prey for a random chance. While it is true that O5-1 mentions he is simply an executive researcher, we have had even simpler agents that caused major damage to the foundations structure. It is not ours to estimate the capability of our subjects. It is through their actions only a semi-quantifiable amount can be determined, even then it may not be fully known. The order is to prepare for the worst possible outcome, as we have seen the executive prepare, we must do so also.

General notes: Council Member O5-5 has been sent out on an investigation mission to Site [REDACTED], somehow we will need to keep his identity hidden without the horrendous mass of MTF that usually surround us, we are taking a gamble with his life. At this point, I would simply love to work out what that dreaded executive is thinking or whether he is thinking to begin with.

Engallagher was an excellent DoR and was a very welcoming and supportive guy and if he returns to DoR I'm sure he could do great things again and help keep research rolling the ball up the hill.
