What Ethics Committee role are you applying for, and why:
  • Ethics Committee Chairman

  • Good question. I make this application with trepidation and some level of hesitation. I’ve read my other ECMs and players' applications, and I think they’re all contenders for the role.
  • I see the main issue being brought up throughout the comments that Ethics is in a “slump”, and it’s due to the current members. I’m inclined to agree; however, I see the reason(s) behind this. We [The Committee] have three, myself included, individuals who all have their own ideas, ways forward for the Committee and the roleplay it entails with the Site. I believe the right analogy here is that there are too many chefs in the kitchen. What is required is a head chef to guide, make those authoritative decisions and take ownership for the actions of the Committee Members and their assistants. With a Chairman in place, this will give the Committee a more consistent voice in line with how the Committee is supposed to be perceived.

What makes you the best candidate for the Ethics Committee?:
  • I think the best rationale for this is the direction I have for the Committee and the departments that sit under us.

Omega-1
There have been comments around O1 and how they’ve also slumped in recent weeks, and that a further reset is required. I disagree partly with this. O1 was indeed not in the state I would like to see it in; however, sitting down with Pyrite and the COs, I’m confident to say O1 are (and has) improved. There’s still some work to do with this, which I’ll outline below;
  • Increasing and incentivising engagement from the top-down of the regiment towards POIs, orders and targets.
    • This has seen improvement as of late with the introduction of priority orders for the regiment, indicating to players which requirements are of the most importance. (Simple things like this can give direction)
  • Creation of a storyline for O1 with the idea of including our current GM team in both the regiment and wider GM team to create events encouraging more roleplay interaction between themselves and the wider Site.
  • Reworking the current ‘teams’ within the regiment. We have players within the regiment on 30+ (monthly) hours, not a part of any teams, nor engaging with the above orders. Let’s utilise these players who are engaging heavily with the server and shift that focus slightly to be more oriented around these requirements and being the ‘roleplay’ leaders we know they can be.
  • Appraisals - There’s been a big push for performance appraisals and such. These are incredibly important to identify areas for improvement formally. My personal feeling is that these appraisals should be more of a conversation rather than a review. My idea (Something trialled with Pyrite at the start of the month) is to introduce these conversations with the current CO team, which builds leadership, communication and handling difficult conversations skills. We’re looking for lessons learnt and how we [Both the appraiser and appraisee] can work together and improve - Doing this OOCly is the most important thing, so issues can be effectively addressed.

ISD
Since leaving ISD as their DoISD and seeing the continued improvements through Brum, Godman and Broda, I feel ISD are in solid shape. Speaking with ISD Directors and Commissioners, there is always room for improvement.
My ideas for ISD would be;
  • Work with current Directors to implement the appraisal system from O1.
  • Working with Site Administration, ISD and DEA on the Site Affairs format that has been struggling to get off the ground.
    • Repairing and improving the relationship between ISDxDEA through key stakeholders and having regular scheduled meetings with both parties together to permit consistent communication of queries.
    • Creation of orders and operations involving both departments
    • Reviewing key documentation and policies within ISD. Working with Directors and ISD leadership to ensure they are up to date and effective for the current playerbase.
ECAs
I tip my hat to Maxo with the current Ethics Assistants. I don’t believe they require much (if any) improvements. I believe ensuring consistent engagement and interactions with orders and operations are kept at the current level would be required. The only area I’d look to improve is the attitude of assistants. Essentially, ECAs are typically the forward-facing part of the Committee and the first interaction Site staff would typically have in the chain of command. We need to ensure assistants uphold professionalism and communication of key details to other Committee members.

Switching briefly to experience, I was also an Ethics Committee Assistant - During this time, I strived to partake in orders and operations for the assistants, along with liaising and engaging with the wider Committee on key areas and documents they were required to view and decide on, along with communicating with other departments on the Site.

Tribunals
After reworking the Tribunal system, it’s been engaged with far more than it was before (thank you). In recent weeks, I’ve noticed a decrease in engagement with the system, through new ISD officers potentially not feeling confident enough to run a tribunal (Or ECAs not feeling confident enough to judge)
  • I think (and some really cool events can be made here), through firstly making an OOC guide for players to read and understand in simplistic terms how tribunals are supposed to proceed, but potentially also getting experienced ECAs/ISD to run classes/seminars on how to run these tribunals, I think, could also be very exciting.

Communication and Conflict
Putting any In-Character personalities aside. When it comes to OOC conflict and the necessity for clear, concise communication is where I excel. I’m experienced in resolving difficult scenarios and heated scenarios with a multitude of people - This from my time as Super Admin in MRP, in my line of work, Director of ISD and now a Committee Member. Being able to sit back and give a proportionate non-reactive response is essential in any leadership position, along with always striving to de-escalate the situation.
Overall, communication is key for me in any relationship you have, whether work or personal. Being able to confidently reach out to people and ask for feedback is essential.

Leadership
As a Committee Member, you’re seen as a roleplay leader. Your role is to strive to create new, exciting roleplay scenarios not for yourself, but for the people around you. Leadership is being able to take that back seat and trust the competence of your personnel below you, then, when required or asked to provide guidance and direction.
Leadership to me is also the ability to take feedback and critique - Like everyone I’m human and “to err is human…” mistakes are a natural part of learning - Being a leader is to learn from these mistakes, improve on these mistakes and teach people your failures and how to avoid them, but most importantly it’s taking ownership of these mistakes, something which has been hammered into me.

Ethics Member
I’ve been an Ethics Member for a few months now. In this time, I’ll briefly outline what I’ve focused on;
  • Omega-1 - This has included the orders, operations, POIs and tweaks, looking at making Omega-1 roleplay more engaging and enjoyable. This has come across in many smaller RP scenarios, but consistent engagement with Omega-1 has always been one of my primary goals as ECM.
  • ECAs - The assistants, as already stated, I think, are in a good state. What I have tried to do is still be that consistent line of communication (Other than their liaison), ensuring they have sufficient orders, which keeps them engaged with the role.
  • General RP - Working with Julien previously, we looked to create a site-wide performance evaluation. This slightly lost headway, however, in recent weeks I’ve looked to create inquiries into departments to allow Assistants and Committee Members to more thoroughly engage with departments on more in-depth topics of conversation, bringing in the entire department rather than the typical CL3 and above.

General
  • What I'd also like to do is utilise the Ethics Committee AI - Cairo.aic - This is something no one has really utilised for quite a while. I think the involvement of GMs with this could create some very interesting events for multiple regiments and Ethics Committee on Site.

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?
  • Regardless of your function as a Member or Chairman, you’re there to engage and liaise with not just the Foundation but the O5 council. You’re there to build and potentially instrumentalise a relationship, ensuring that the ends justify the means. You’re there to provide the illusion of the simplistic bureaucratic pencil pushers to everyone who doesn’t need to know, ensuring both Assistants and Members keep to this.
    • If the Council has deviated too far from the path of the Mission statement, Primary Action considerations are required via a vote of all the ECMs. This vote, if agreed, is carried out via the Omega-1 regiment.
  • As a Chairman (Like Member), you are there to oversee Tribunals. Ensuring the process remains fair and unbiased from an OOC PoV.
  • ECAs and ECMs require engagement and training. Sitting down and coordinating plans on how they can improve themselves and giving them scenarios and situations in which they can learn, is key to their development into competent Assistants and Committee Members.
  • Maintaining oversight of the FLC and the Internal Security Department to ensure the FLC is fit for purpose and ISD is confidently and competently upholding the FLC.
  • Liaising with the Omega-1 regimental command and ensuring they feel supported, and assisting them with their day-to-day operations.
  • BAU duties - Code Black, Advanced Armoury, Site-wide amnestication and ERT.
  • General Oversight - You’re required to engage with the wider Foundation Command and other departments to ensure standards are upheld and voices are heard.

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee out of RP (e.g. what applications do they handle?):
  • Director of ISD (DoISD)
  • Ethics Committee Assistants
  • Ethics Committee Members
  • Omega-1 Commander
  • Not only applications, but also ensuring consistent liaison between all areas of FCOM and that changes proposed are acceptable and appropriate to ensure all players will enjoy them.
  • Ensure RP standards throughout the site are maintained.
  • Being a guide/mentor to both ECAs, ECMs and any other leadership player requesting assistance.

Please give some lore about your Ethics Committee character and what storylines they would be involved in: Please read - Here

Am really on the fence with this application, on one part I do think you are of the more worthy of ECC of the current ECMs but on the other hand I don't think you are ready for ECC, the main issue is the lack of helping EC out of the slump they are in, now yes, getting ECC would make that easier, but you haven't been the biggest protecter of 'The Biggest Lie' since the first thing you did as ECM was that whole treason arc 'Harry Plumb' and your second charachter wasn't so diffirent, now I haven't interacted with your third charachter but if they are again just like the past two then that would be an issue.

Now charachters being alike might seem like a minor issue but it does get redundent when long RP takes place to get a charachter killed and the next one is the same as the last one, makes all the RP that led up to that feel minor.

And the last thing is regarding something that came to me recently of how EC handled something.

I haven’t heard of this! Could you elaborate more to me either here or on DMs? Sounds interesting at the least…

This started as Malcom Nice. I was then promoted to ECM, which turned into Harry Plumb (same guy, different name). We wrapped it up quickly so Hersh could return and actually start some normal roleplay. It was an event where we got cogntiohzard posters made up all around the site. Involving O1/RSD and E-11, including F3.

Making it sound like a dictatorship when you phrase it like this 😭 , However, even if you don't really play a character, you do well and your OOC management has always been very good and your respect towards other people is extremely admirable and something that is an incredibly welcome fit for ECC, having an approachable CL5 leader is incredibly important. When I was ECM, you were always incredibly friendly and always willing to lend a hand. I think that is the most important part

Hersh, as an ECM, has been a great example to me; his interactions and the way he carries himself in any discussions are honestly great. I feel like he could really push the Ethics Committee further and really get it back together.

He is also very active, very happy to look into any situations, and approachable.

The issue wasn't mainly the RP, it was the fact the second charachter was the same as the first, it removes the weight of a PK.
Now charachters being alike might seem like a minor issue but it does get redundent when long RP takes place to get a charachter killed and the next one is the same as the last one, makes all the RP that led up to that feel minor.
Once I saw that their second charachter was the same as the first, all the RP before that felt without weight.

In PKs the next charachter should be diffirent, if they were apporachable before then they should be unapporachable now, if they were driven my logic before then they should be driven by emotion now. It's so it feels as if the RP truly made change and when you feel the change in charchters(After spending a long time in RP to get action done on them) it gives motivation for people to pursue issues on SA/FCOM instead of just surrendering to the fact 'The next one will be the same' because if you knew doing all that effort will lead to no change, then you wouldn't even try at all.

And I don't speak of 'what if' here, this is something I often face when people come to me IC or OOC(to ask for advice on how to RP better) about advice on how to deal with SA/FCOM acting in ways that is unfavorable to them IC, and each time I tell them that they could get them punished (IC) if they have good enough proof (and often they do) they respond with, 'It won't really change anything since (A) the next one will be the same (or B) nothing ever happens'.

Now this isn't just an issue here, I often see players getting PKed only to have their next persona a clone of their last persona, this is a major Issue that I hope everyone notices the hurt it causes to RP (both treasonous or non-treasnous).

Why do I bring it up here then? Well this is an ECC app, an ECC leads by example to not just the EC but to a very large amount of players on the server, if they see them do it, they could start doing it.

+support overall. Both ehrendil and Hersh handles ooc issues very well within ethics. Personal experience with them both when ooc issues rised got it handled quickly and easily both being very respectful during this time.
I cannot speak as for Hersh IC with being a liason of o1 as I am not an o1. I do not see the orders he makes. Besides for the fact I'm loving dealing with his new character. Overall hoping for both of ya ❤️
