Why are you applying for Director of Research?
I am applying for Director of Research because, after watching the department from the outside, I have become increasingly concerned about its current trajectory. Research is something I have always cared deeply about, and I genuinely believe that without some course correction, the department risks losing the identity and structure that made it enjoyable, creative, and meaningful for so many people. I do not want to see the systems, culture, and RP foundations that were built by myself and others slowly fade.
When I stepped away, it was due to outside pressure rather than a loss of interest. I never intended my departure to be permanent. In truth, I loved my time as an Executive, and I always knew I would return, but the recent state of Research has motivated me to come back sooner than planned. If the direction continues without guidance, I worry that the work we invested into the department may be lost, which would make returning far less meaningful for me and for others who helped shape its identity.
One of my core motivations is that I believe the previous Directors were genuinely steering Research in a positive direction. Their priorities, structure, and philosophy aligned closely with my own. I want to maintain and build upon what they established, not replace it. Their style is something I deeply respected, and I want to expand on it while contributing my own approach.
I have many ideas I would like to integrate into the department from:
• Continuing with my G.A.R.F sub-department for structured project management to help Researchers organise, track, and complete their work more effectively.
• Expanding the branding and iconography I previously developed, giving Research a unified visual identity through posters, signage, and thematic styling.
• Introducing initiatives and incentives I’ve already discussed with others, aimed at boosting engagement and providing clear goals for researchers at all levels.
• Raising the overall standard of documentation, making it something researchers take pride in rather than treat as a formality.
• Encouraging genuine creativity in experimentation, reporting, and long-form RP, ensuring documents reflect real thought and effort.
• Motivating researchers by creating an environment where quality work is recognised, valued, and celebrated.
These aren’t surface-level additions; they’re part of a broader goal to raise the value of documentation, foster genuine creativity, and encourage researchers to take pride in the work they produce.
In my time being back on the server, I have had long conversations with members of the community, discussing what they felt Research needed and sharing my own processes and ideas. I care about how others see the department and what direction they believe it should take. Collaboration and communication will always be central to how I lead.
Ultimately, I am applying because I want to protect the progress we made, elevate the department further, and continue the legacy of the Directors who came before me. I loved being an Executive, and I am confident I would love being a Director. Research deserves leadership that is present, invested, and passionate. I want to be that presence.
What makes you suitable for Director of Research?
I believe I am suitable for the Director of Research position because my approach to the department has always extended far beyond simply “running tests.” Throughout my time in the RSD, I have consistently invested myself in building systems, improving standards, supporting other researchers, and shaping Research into a department people want to be part of. I have always taken a leadership role naturally, even when I didn’t hold the rank for it.
During my time as an Executive, I was extremely active within the department, assisting with documentation, guiding newer researchers, brainstorming project ideas, and maintaining strong relations with other branches of the site. My focus has always been to make Research organised, enjoyable, and meaningful, and I believe many within the community recognise me for that approach. Even after stepping away, I continued discussing Research with others at length, sharing my thoughts, processes, and ideas because I genuinely care about the department’s health and the direction it takes.
What sets me apart as a candidate is that I bring both creative and structural value:
• I am heavily documentation-driven, always pushing for better writing, better organisation, and higher standards across the board.
• I created branding, iconography, and posters for Research, helping give the department a distinct identity that people recognise.
• I developed project-management ideas designed to make large tests, cross-tests, and collaborative work more organised and rewarding.
• I consistently engage with researchers at all clearance levels, ensuring they feel supported and motivated, not overlooked.
• I rely on communication when dealing with difficult players, often turning “troublemakers” into active researchers by giving them purpose and attention.
• I have a strong sense of what makes RP meaningful, and I naturally guide others into creating deeper, more considered interactions and documents.
I also believe my return provides something valuable: perspective. Being outside the department for a short time has allowed me to identify what is working, what is slipping, and what needs immediate attention. I understand the importance of maintaining what the previous Directors built, while also expanding upon it with my own style, balancing continuity with innovation.
Research needs leadership that is active, invested, and able to bring people together. I have shown repeatedly that I can unify a department, raise standards, and create an environment where RP can flourish. I know how to communicate, how to motivate, and how to ensure Research runs smoothly even during periods of instability.
In short, I am suitable because I care, I have experience, I understand the department deeply, and I have both the vision and the practical ability to lead it forward.
What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?
The Director of Research carries the overall responsibility for ensuring that the Department of Research functions as a stable, organised, and high-quality pillar of the site. Research is one of the most integral components of the server’s RP ecosystem. Without consistent testing, structured projects, and an active Research Division, entire gameplay loops for GSD, E-11, ISD, SCP players, and D-Class begin to stagnate. Because of this, the Director must manage the department with care, consistency, and strong leadership.
In roleplay, the Director of Research is responsible for:
• Departmental Leadership & Management
The DoR oversees the entire Research Division, ensuring Executives fulfil their responsibilities, such as documentation grading, onboarding, sampling and test approvals, and merit logging. They maintain structure through weekly meetings, project assignments, and general departmental organisation. The Director sets the tone; their conduct directly shapes the professionalism and stability of the entire RSD.
• Policy Enforcement & Departmental Standards
The DoR enforces Research policy, testing protocols, and the FLC. They ensure that tests are conducted safely, ethically, and within the guidelines established by Site Administration. When policies require clarification, revision, or expansion, the Director works with command members to implement these changes.
• Documentation Quality & RP Standards
One of the core responsibilities of the Director is to maintain and elevate documentation standards. They set the grading expectations, guide Executives on consistent evaluation, and encourage all Researchers to produce thoughtful, detailed, lore-respecting documents. By upholding strong documentation practices, the DoR secures the quality and authenticity of Research RP across the site.
• Authorisation of High-Risk Testing
The Director is responsible for approving Euclid–Euclid, Euclid–Keter, and Keter–Keter cross-tests. They assess the purpose, risks, and benefits of proposed experiments and ensure external bodies (such as the Ethics Committee) are involved when necessary. They also ensure Executives remain available to approve lower-clearance and lower-risk testing.
• Departmental Engagement & Cross-Branch Relations
A key responsibility is maintaining positive relations with E-11, ISD, Medical, GSD, and other relevant departments. The DoR coordinates cross-departmental projects, resolves RP roadblocks (e.g., FLC issues, security conflicts, sampling restrictions), and ensures Research does not impede other branches and isn't impeded by them.
• RP Facilitation & Event Support
The Director works with GMs and staff to integrate Research into server events and storyline developments. Directors should also help researchers get in contact with GMs if needed for testing. They help plan and support large-scale RP so that these events do not fall flat and that Research has meaningful involvement.
• Meetings, Communication & Staff Development
Regular departmental meetings are a core duty of the DoR. These involve discussing department status, reviewing policy, sharing updates with SA/O5/EC, assigning projects, answering questions, and gathering ideas from Researchers of all ranks. The Director also interviews Executive candidates and ensures the leadership team remains strong and active.
• Operational CL4 Duties
As CL4 personnel, the Director may assist with facility systems, clearances, and high-level operational controls during emergencies such as breaches or raids, supporting containment and site stability.
• Maintaining Research as a Central Pillar of the Server
Most importantly, the Director must recognise that Research is a foundation of server RP. Without active testing, structured projects, and well-led Researchers, the flow of RP across the entire site slows or collapses. The DoR’s role is therefore not only departmental leadership, but safeguarding the health and progression of server-wide roleplay.
Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in
