What Ethics Committee role are you applying for, and why:
- I am applying for the role of Ethics Committee Chairman
Having served as Vice Chairman before and, more recently, as a member of the Ethics Committee, I feel well-prepared to take on this role. The ideas I’ve introduced and the new ones I plan to bring forward show my ongoing dedication. I’m also excited to keep building on server roleplay and to continue growing my character. I have really enjoyed my time playing on the server with Ethics/O1 and even the O5, and I believe that with this position, I can work really well with my counterparts and create a thriving community.
What makes you the best candidate for the Ethics Committee?:
-
I'll start by highlighting my previous roles. As shown above, I've held numerous Senior CL4 positions. In each of these roles, I participated in large-scale roleplay. For example, during the 008 surface incident when I was the NU7 COM, I roleplayed with O5, Ethics, DEA, and medical teams. As E11 Commander, I engaged consistently in roleplay across the entire site, and as Ethics Vice Chairman, I was involved in many roleplay scenarios. The most significant and favorite one was the buildup and failed assassination of an O5, which introduced my character. Looking back, it was a great experience. I love roleplaying my character and aim to develop it further. I hope this will inspire others to roleplay characters instead of just themselves, raising the overall standard. Throughout my time in the committee, I fully committed myself. I've worked closely with Broda, the current chairman, and we both agree that roleplay should not be restricted behind CL4 doors. Some of my best roleplay moments involved ISD agents, GSD, and medical staff. Because of this, I plan to focus on promoting roleplay with these ranks. To do so, I want to collaborate with GMs and the staff team to create better roleplay experiences. I also aim to push this initiative further as Chairman. Additionally, my experience as a super admin has prepared me well for this position. I’ve led and managed teams, working closely with many members on the server, which I believe helps me build good relationships with others on the server. I am very lucky yo be working so closely with both Julien and Ehrendil, I believe we all work very well together and I hope to further that if I am succesful, I believe I am quite an easy person to talk to and thats something that is needed in a position like this. Being able to have people want to come to you with issues is a key component of a healthy roleplay community.
Broda has been such a massive help since coming into the position, and I want to build on what he has done even further and continue building up ethics and Omega 1. Right now, O1 is struggling to keep consistent numbers up. I believe what they need is a consistent roleplay loop, which sadly they were without for a while, much like what Broda is currently doing. I wish to push out more orders, POI targets, and eventual assassinations. This is the main RP loop of O1 and what they ultimately enjoy the most, and I want to further that for them. O1 is the committee's biggest tool and something that should be built up alongside it. Along with O1 we have our ECAs, for them I want to push more orders out for them to get involved in, becoming our voice and acting on our orders, I want them to be more like they are in lore, this can be easily done and it's something I wish to push for. Lastly is ISD, they are the hardest to plan for because they are their own department within themselves, however, this makes for a great challenge. I want to add onto my current plans by assisting ISD in becoming more like an investigative body, utalising them to further the foundations mission.
What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?:
-
The Ethics Committee – Roles and Responsibilities
The Ethics Committee forms the moral backbone of the Foundation, ensuring that all experiments and operations align with the organisational mission and its moral code of conduct. Its main duty is the authorisation of tests involving human life, assessing whether each procedure has a genuine scientific purpose and justifies the use of such a resource. The Committee communicates with clear and honest language; they never sugarcoat what needs to be said. For example, if a Level 2 Researcher wants to conduct an SCP-914 test using a D-Class infected by SCP-427, the researcher needs to justify the purpose of the test about the mission of the Foundation. Only then would the Committee weigh in as to whether this constitutes a proper and meaningful use of D-Class personnel, including, if necessary, approving their termination.
Oversight and Observation
The Ethics Committee participates in site-level observation and infiltration of other Departments for the purposes of ethical conduct and enforcement within a roleplay context. Members and assistants are often embedded naturally within the everyday functions of Site-65, sometimes assisted by operatives from MTF Omega-1.
Ethics Committee Assistants may be sent out to interview Site staff, investigate ethical violations, and issue formal warnings or citations on behalf of Committee Members.
Emergency Behavior – Code Black Situations
During a Code Black Evacuation, a Committee Member is expected to assist Site Administration in crisis management by doing the following:
Coordinating the tactical deployment of MTF Omega-1,
Contact the Emergency Response Team if Site Administration is incapacitated, and if it proves to be necessary, authorizing detonation of the Alpha Warhead to reset the roleplay scenario and restore site integrity.
Internal Security and Enforcement
The Committee exercises authority through the Internal Security Department, which purports to keep order and avoid unnecessary arrests or disorder. Internal Security should be for routine investigations and lower-level ethical breaches. MTF Omega-1, by contrast, serves as the Committee's "trump card" for mission-critical or high-risk operations.
Tribunal and Legal Responsibilities
The Ethics Committee is responsible for the creation, hosting, and oversight of the Tribunal System to ensure all summoned personnel get a fair and unbiased hearing before a jury of their peers. Committee Members should impartially conduct these proceedings, although roleplay dynamics may sometimes affect the process.
Appointments linked with the Foundation’s Legal Codex, mainly ethical legislation, are also dealt with by the members. Even though the Ethical Codex is a main commitment of the Committee, it shares some responsibilities with the Overseer Council.
Cooperation with MTF Omega-1 and the Overseer Council
The Committee shall also issue regular operational directives to MTF Omega-1 to keep the unit professional and ready for action at all times. As a governing body, the Ethics Committee generally shadows the Overseer Council, ensuring all actions remain consistent with the mission statement of the Foundation. Contrary to popular belief, the Committee and the O5 Council work in close cooperation, addressing disagreement, exceedingly rare though it is, privately rather than through public conflict.
Exceptional Authority – “Primary Action” Very rarely, in extreme circumstances, the Committee may declare Primary Action: intervention in the operations of the Foundation directly. This should only be used in serious, extraordinary situations. Gameplay events involving this have been carefully realigned so they occur only where justified and treated responsibly. If Primary Action is carried out successfully, the ethics committee votes on members for a new council from selected trusted personnel. They can additionally vote to kill select members if needed, this is very rare however and to be kept top secret.
What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee out of RP (e.g., what applications do they handle?):
- As Ethics Chairman, the role carries ultimate authority and oversight within the Ethics Committee, including both operational and administrative duties:
Committee Membership Oversight
Cast the deciding vote in cases regarding the admission of new Ethics Committee Members, or veto candidates deemed unfit. Voting happens inside the appropriate forum channels, with extensive discussion and deliberation by all Committee Members.
Oversight of Key Appointments
All Committee Members must vote on the appointments of the Director of Internal Security, MTF Omega-1 Commander, and Ethics Committee Assistants. The Chairman participates in and may lead an interview process for such positions. On applications handled by other departments, the Committee may provide input where relevant, although it normally does not have a deciding vote.
Policy, Documentation, and Legal Oversight
Maintain current, update, and manage all Ethics Committee records, policies, and tribunal-related documents. Ensure full control over the Legal Codex of the Foundation for its relevance, accuracy, and alignment with the mission of the Foundation.
Operational Coordination
Schedule and lead meetings with MTF Omega-1 to discuss the performance of the regiment, any updates relevant to major storylines or projects, and to provide strategic guidance, as a committee you also decide who the next Commander is and provide insight for any upcoming promotions. Collaborate with Site Administration to ensure departments receive adequate support and oversight. Liaise with the Overseer Council (OOC) on wider issues across the site and develop high-level strategies.
I do want to state, I have been on LOA due to work; however, I have been active externally, helping the committee and O1
