For how long have you played on CG SCP?

~5 months (with about 700 hours on the server)
According to VTime: 6d 22h

Age:

15

In what country are you located?

England, United Kingdom

Time zone:

GMT / BST (UTC / UTC+1)

Character name(s):

  • 'Millzy'
  • 'Morlov'

Civilian name:

F.W.B Mills

What server are you applying for? (SCP-RP UK or SCP-RP USA):

SCP-RP UK

Do you have a microphone?

Yes.

List all whitelisted, MTF, or CI roles that you hold or have held:

  • MTF Epsilon-11 Command Sergeant (Holding)
  • Executive Researcher (Holding)
  • Chaos Insurgency Gamma (Held)
  • SCP-096 (Holding)

Have you received any kicks/bans/warning? and why?

Nope.

Why are you applying for Director of Research?

I have been in the Executive Researcher team for quite some time now and I believe that I am ready to move up within the department. In addition to this people have stated that the position suits me or have recommended me to apply for the role, which you now see before you. I also firmly believe that I will be able to benefit the department immensely and assist the current Director of Research (Dpt. Director James Lyndon Pennington) with managing and running the department.

What makes you suitable for Director of Research?

One of my most notable skills, so I've been told, is documentation. Almost every single new research study I write, conduct and complete has received an excellent grading. In the "out of character" area, I have assisted in upgrading existing documentation, as well as being assigned new ones to complete. One of the most recent examples being the "Reward & Training Logger" spreadsheet: My changes included writing a custom script to automatically calculate how much money the department owed to which researchers and would display it on a separate spreadsheet, which Dpt. Director James Lyndon Pennington can verify. Documentation is an essential skill for a good Director of Research.
I have also demonstrated my commitment to the department; very recently, I completed a renewed "Research Handbook". A forty-seven (47) page document that details the proper methods for conducting tests, writing excellent documentation and general
etiquette. It can be found pinned to the back of the research board. The document did take a while to finish, with server rewrites and drafts before I was finally happy with it (I guess I am a bit of a perfectionist).
I conduct myself in a professional manner to other members of the department and other Foundation staff, setting an example for other members of my department. I am constantly reworking documents, lecture slides and other media so that they are of the best standard for showing/presenting to other members of the department. A good Director of Research should represent the department in a professional way and set an example for those around them.

What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research?

I'll list all the responsibilities here so that it is easily readable.
  • Managing and representing the Research Department, primarily the Executive Researcher team. Ensuring that they do their jobs, conduct lectures, train other researchers... etc.
  • Being a Director of Research does not leave you exempt from basic executive work such as: hosting lectures, grading documents, training researchers.
  • Setting an example: As a Director of Research, people will naturally turn to you for approval, advice and other things. Setting a good example reflects well on you and the whole department that you represent.
  • Hosting regular lectures. Whilst I believe all researchers should try and do regular lectures anyway, it is especially important for a Director of Research to host them.
  • Managing the department policies. The Director of Research can edit/change the policies that apply to the research department. These changes will more often time than not be new amendments to the policy. The Director of Research should also ensure that researchers are aware of new policy changes.
  • Grading Documents. I believe a strict approach to document grading is absolutely necessary in order for people to truly learn how to properly write a document.

Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in:

File #0292-65 "Executive Researcher 'Millzy'"

Dr. Frederick 'Millzy' Mills

Security Clearance Level: 4 (Top-Secret)
Personnel Classification: B
Staff Title: Executive Researcher
Working Site: Site-65

Education:
MIT

Frederick W.B Mills was born in Chiswick, London to A.L Browning and S.R Mills in November of 1985. Later moved to Oxford, Oxfordshire in 1992 so that Frederick may attend ███ ██████ ████████, Reading. Frederick left for MIT and subsequently the United States in July 2003.
Frederick studies Computer Science and Psychology at MIT and graduated eight (8) years later with a PhD in both subjects on the 19th of April 2012.

Frederick worked as a Software Engineer at the Oracle Corporation in the UK from 2013 to 2016. Frederick then co-founded an Artificial Intelligence research start-up named 'Synthwave' with childhood friend J.B Pyke. The company developed the first functioning AI assisted targeting computer and sold the research and a prototype to the Royal Air Force for £8 million in 2017. The company continued to develop AI assisted aerial equipment primarily in navigation and targeting.

In 2019 the company began the development of AI operated espionage equipment for MI6 to conduct unmanned missions into hazardous environments and territories. During a test run in ██████, ██████ a prototype accidentally captured a scan of the entrance zone to Site-██, before it was shot down by foundation SAM turrets. Foundation agents approached Frederick for interrogation. Frederick was generally polite and compliant, answering all questions the Foundation issued to him. Since the espionage project was contracted by the UK Government and the progress of the project was carefully monitored, Foundation Command decided that it would be more beneficial to work with Frederick rather than to dispose of him.

In March 2020, Frederick was recruited into the Foundation and Site-65's Research Department.

Frederick's psychological research on SCPs present at Site-65 allowed the foundation further insight into how to better control the SCPs and develop better containment measures. Since Frederick's employment, containment breaches caused by SCPs breaking out of their containment chamber has decreased by 11%.

Frederick became an Executive Researcher in April 2022, recruited by Dpt. Director Nyx Hart.

Frederick continued to conduct psychological research in addition to running a psychology "division" within the research department.

I am writing this in neutral as I do not want to be seen as biased one way or another.
From first becoming an Executive all the way to becoming DoR Millzy has been consistently by my side assisting me where need be. I understand there are others who desire this role so I'll make points I feel valid.
Recently Millzy's activity has been slightly questionable. This however hasn't always been the case. Millzy has generally been one of the more active long-term Executives within the department. Placing huge amounts of effort towards documentation and towards department functions in general. I can testify that they assisted me in the re-writing of the "Rewards & Training Logger" spreadsheet; which has allowed for increased administration enforcement. For that, I am extremely grateful.
Some may comment that Millzy is immature to which I can only partially agree. While he is younger than most he knows when to be serious and apply his efforts to a subject.
I ensure the council will make a fair and valid opinion on this well-written, detailed, and worthwhile application.

~Some people saying activity, but personally I haven't noticed it declining too much tbh

All in all I think Millzy would make a decent DoR and I look forward to seeing our department leadership expand with more DoR's being around more often. It would help with productivity IMO.

Please note, this is from one of Millzys direct subordinates in the division they run, so I like to think my interpretation of them would be quite accurate.

- From (I admit limited) interactions both in game and over discord you seem extremely immature and unable to take any criticism. When discussing this with other researchers it is something others have also noticed.

- Hostile leadership style to subordinates. Threatening to kick researchers for not doing “group tasks” we have little say in and never wanted to do in the first place. Refusing to take advise on how to improve these tests.

- Lore is much shorter and more basic than others running for the same position. Would expect lore of this quality for Executive or Senior not Director.

- Today was the first time I’ve seen you online in a week. Not sure if our time zones line up so that could explain it.

- PSI-5 (your division) is (lets be honest) a completely dead division with only myself and rarely another person on.

- You have members of PSI-5 actively looking for other divisions to join, which would leave you as the sole active member of the division. Meaning if you get the job the division would have literally no body in it.

- I have no knowledge of documentation or rosters you have written due to my position so I’ll go neutral on this part.

- I admit the recruitment website thing you made is pretty fucking awesome.

To round it off, I really don’t think you’re a good fit for this role due to your immaturity, lack of accountability and your several failings as a division head.

+Very slim support
+Capable, Experienced and productive
+Mature enough, if a bit whimsical
+Long time Executive
+Capable division lead
+Approachable and friendly

~Unsure of Dpt. Leading capability
~While there are complaints, they are few and far between, while also being unverified and disreputable.

-chaotic and insubordinate on occasion
-random spouts of unprofessionalism, generally harmless

I honestly did not expect to support millzy´s bid for DoR, as i am averse to the idea . however, i have no practical, tangible reasons to not support him, and he posesses many positive qualities. Were he to be sole DoR, i would not support this, however i belive that alongside james, he can do an excellent job.

| Slight Activity Issue but it is Majorly Improving |
Although me and Millzy are interested in the same role, I have decided to leave my support anyways.

Millzy is a hard working and dedicated Executive and whether it be me or him as Director of Research does not bother me one bit.

Millzy has always proved his loyalty and dedication towards the Research Department. He is always hard at work on documents or spreadsheets (They are beautiful).

He has also been here for quite some time so he is of course well experienced within the Department. Millzy has also proved that in many ways with the assistance he has gave to others.

When I was striving for the Executive role, Millzy - alongside others - constantly gave me the support necessary so that I could gain the Executive role.

As I said if it's not me, it's Millzy. I love this guy!

~Informative/Neutral~

Everyone can see the neat application and make their own judgement real quick, so I figured some personal observations would suffice.

As a fellow executive researcher, I personally do not feel that comfortable commenting on other executives' endeavors (with some exceptions)

From what I have observed, Millzy is a very professional executive researcher. Their notable achievements in the department is taking PSI-5 very seriously and making it a good RP group. Millzy also contributed to making other executives' lives easier with their work behind the scenes.

I saw a few prior comments mentioning behaviour, I personally have yet to see negative things.

Millzy definitely has what it takes to work as a DoR, and it must be mentioned that their efforts towards the department goes beyond from going around in game, since the website and excel spreadsheet building are clear examples of this dedication to the role going BEYOND the Gmod server.

I'll admit, I have never seen you In-game as a researcher. But, however. I have escorted you on multiple Research tests, RRT Escorts. I have spoken to you a lot In-game. I will also say, that although. You have been active, these past few weeks I've only ever seen you on E-11 therefore and it pains me to say this and I have seen you do great things on Research. I will be going for a Slight Support:

++Good RP interactions as GS;
+Friendly and professional on the job;
+Have had plenty of RP interactions in-game as Nu-7 [He is an E-11 CSG and a pleasant one at that;
+Great Leader, I've seen him run E-11 and although there is more to be desired he can run E-11;
+ Application is short but simple, and I personally feel that it is a very good Application.

+/- Activity issue;
+/- Unsure of DoR potential;

-I understand this section could be from Biased sources, not only that I am just reading what I see in this Application and the responses and I will updates this as more information comes out but what "Rawlings" has said about your Sub Department. The Neglect I can see for myself In-game but that a fellow Exec Researcher "Agatha" has said that he does not feel comfortable with you becoming a DoR is scary for me. And in my opinion you need to proof them wrong, you need to become more active. Delete this before it gets denied and make a change in the way you lead the Department. I'd love to see you one day become a DoR but don't try to lead with fear, this is the Research Department. It is meant to be a chill place for open discussion about SCPs don't threaten Researchers for not wanting to do something. Not E-11 or Nu-7 and I think being in E-11 has screwed you a little and you need to take an LOA and think straighter.

Same has happened to me, and coming back I realize this and have changed. I know people have seen me In-Game and although I had a little rage yesterday lol. I know that all in all, GSD are people who are just starting and will need that help. Lead Research don't turn it into a one man party Dictatorship where if someone does anything they get Blacklisted!

TLDR: Now is not the time, you need to spend more time on Research. Change your Leadership in Research and most importantly don't try to use fear Tactics to get Researchers to do things they don't want to. Not only that, you need to revive your Sub Department and make into something that is an asset towards the foundation. [I have cleared this up with him in DMs and he has explained this to me, I will however. Keep my prior comment as there are both better Candidates out there and he does need to spend far more time on the job. Don't do a Bill Ron return for a day and expect Captain work on it, improve the Department and show that you're the leader you're set out to be and then you might become DoR some day I'd also like to keep this as context for both my fuck up!]

Also, no offense. Now isn't the time. There are better candidates out there and you need to improve activity and show that you're capable of this instead of coming back after a couple months and expecting DoR after a week because you've been Exec for so long. I understand you've done a lot in the Research Department and I'd never try and say you haven't but you need to show that you are here to stay. As it just seems like, you might have only come back recently because you want to make an Application. Which I'd say I've known you long enough to think you wouldn't but making an Application right after Returning is a little odd. Although I know, I in no way can talk but I'd like to think that I've shown that I have changed in recent times not only that I have tired to be as active as possible even with Two, yeah. Two now for fucksake Ear Infections one Fungal and the other Bacterial both bad. And I am still trying to run D-Block as best as possible and when I can't, I just say "/C3 I have to go to Bed in Bunks" because I am on that grindset yo, anyhow. I trust that Milzy you will take this advice, I think you no me enough to know that I wouldn't ever try to throw you under the bus and I genuinely wish you luck in future but please listen to my advice and try to change.

Main reason I am giving you a
"Slight Support" is that I just haven't had enough RP interactions with you on the Research job to know if you're worthy of DoR, and. Although I have had plenty of RP interactions with you as an E-11 [Which is why it is so hard for me to give you a "Slight Support" as you're genuinely really nice] I have to as it is what is best for the Server.

Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck!

+Active within the community for a long period of time
+Long term researcher as Nukegoboom stated
+Contributed a lot to the research department, such as:

-Researcher Handbook
-Recruitment Website
-Spreadsheet Rewards & Training Logger
-Detail in all applications or documents he writes
-PSI-5 (His Sub-Division)

I occasionally find Millzy having a spout of harmless immature behaviour, however, I think we should all be charitable to Millzy as he is trying to improve any behaviour and I'm sure this will amplify if he gets DoR (he will understand the sheer importance and scope of the role). Furthermore, he has also contributed the most out of the majority of researchers (some of the many things he has done is stated above in the list).

GL ?
