What makes you the best candidate for Ethics Committee Assistant?:
As an Ethics Committee Assistant , I am responsible for upholding and enforcing the rulings and decisions of the Ethics Committee, particularly in their absence. I serve as a representative of the committee, ensuring that ethical standards and guidelines are followed throughout all operations. My duties include monitoring compliance, advising personnel on ethical concerns, and addressing any violations or misconduct that may arise. Additionally, I act as a point of communication between the Ethics Committee and other departments, helping to interpret and apply ethical rulings in a fair and consistent manner. My role is to maintain integrity, accountability, and ethical adherence within the foundation.
What are the responsibilities of Ethics Committee Assistants in RP?:
As an Ethics Committee Assistant, my role is to uphold and enforce the rulings of the Ethics Committee, ensuring the SCP Foundation operates within ethical boundaries. I act as their representative in their absence, advising personnel, investigating violations, and intervening to prevent misconduct. I also liaise with MTF, Site Administration, and Medical Staff to maintain ethical integrity across all operations. Additionally, I oversee interrogations and experiments to ensure compliance with ethical standards. By documenting incidents and policy breaches, I help maintain a balance between the Foundation’s mission and its ethical obligations.
Please give some lore about your Ethics Committee Assistant character and what storylines they would be involved in:
Johnathan Flagg comes from a simple Canadian household in the small town of Conklin, Alberta. Growing up, he performed decently in school—not a standout student, but smart and capable when he applied himself. Despite this, he always carried a lingering feeling that he was meant for something greater, even if he wasn't sure what that was. He was never the bravest person, often preferring to avoid conflict rather than face it head-on, but he had a sharp mind and a knack for thinking on his feet. His wife jokingly describes him as a "competent coward"—someone who can handle high-pressure situations well but would rather not be in them in the first place.
Despite his fears, Johnathan eventually made the decision to join the SCP Foundation. It wasn’t a choice driven by courage or ambition, but rather by a deep-seated feeling of inadequacy. He had spent years questioning his own worth, wondering if he was truly capable of something meaningful. The Foundation, with its vast unknowns and high-stakes environment, seemed like the ultimate test—a place where he could finally prove himself, even if the idea of facing anomalies terrified him.
At the Foundation, Johnathan walks a fine line between fear and competence. He’s not the type to charge into danger recklessly, but when forced into a situation, he finds ways to get the job done—whether through quick thinking, careful planning, or sheer luck. He excels in problem-solving, risk assessment, and making sure he’s the last person to get caught up in the chaos, yet he’ll push through his fears if there’s no other option. While others may see him as hesitant or overly cautious, those who work closely with him recognize that his cautious nature often keeps him alive.
His journey at the Foundation isn’t just about survival—it’s about proving to himself that he can handle the unknown, that he is capable, and that maybe, just maybe, he was right about being destined for something more.
I could see a possible storyline taking advantage of my characters cowardice where the Chaos Insurgency targets Flagg, believing his cautious nature makes him an ideal candidate for recruitment as an informant. They offer him protection and power in exchange for betraying the Foundation. Faced with the choice of selling out or risking his life, Flagg decides to play both sides. He begins feeding the CI false information, while secretly working with the Foundation to expose them. His cowardice—his tendency to avoid direct conflict—becomes his greatest strength, as it leads the CI to underestimate him. By staying calm, pretending to be a compliant informant, and using his intelligence to stay one step ahead, Flagg manages to outsmart the Chaos Insurgency all while maintaining his position in the Foundation.
