Why are you applying for Security Captain?
The last few weeks I've been trying out different roles within the foundation and I find myself consistently coming back to GSD. I believe that, as a department, it offers huge a variety in tasks and is a fantastic way for newer players to get involved, all while interacting with other departments. After spending a good amount of time as an RRT sergeant and working with several captains (performing sweeps, managing D-block and assisting with tryouts), I believe I have a good enough understanding of the department to be able to start making a more substantial impact. With the release of the latest report from site administration it is clear we have much to improve upon, and I'm keen to be involved in this journey.
What makes you suitable for Security Captain?:
- Professional but approachable - I believe I can balance being approachable and friendly, with being professional and firm, as is required in a role where you are responsible for the safety of foundation personnel, including potentially dangerous D-class.
- Ethical - I will always attempt to take the route that minimizes the risk of needless loss of life. Whether that is through ensuring GSD personnel correctly follow the 3 warnings system, or making sure researchers adhere to established protocols while testing. If I deem something not to be resolvable with a discussion (based on severity/continued issues), I have no issue involving our colleagues in the IA department, who I have every faith in to dispense justice.
- Leadership - While I try to avoid micromanaging and encourage more junior department members to make their own decisions, if necessary I will take control of a situation to guide it to a satisfactory resolution.
- Continued Improvement - I'm keen to work with the other captains and CoS to see how we can improve the department and believe I have skills that could be useful to this effect (production of documentation and web apps, as well as management experience).
What are the responsibilities of the Security Captain in RP?:
- Enabling members of the department to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
- Educating junior members of the department in how best to execute those duties and conduct themselves.
- Providing oversight over D-block operations:
- Ensuring POIs are adequately staffed
- Keeping tabs on the state of the D-Class population and performing/authorising sweeps if so required.
- Maintaining order in outer D-block, making sure non-GSD staff know where they can, and can't, be. Particularly during the various alert codes.
- Enabling research within the facility through the researcher/D-class escort function of GenSec.
- Hosting RRT and heavy weapons tryouts, to enable junior members to progress and further their GSD careers.
- Liasing with other departments to ensure the smooth operation of the facility and offering GSD assistance where appropriate (in particular making use of the highly versatile RRT).
- Working with fellow captains and the Chiefs of Security to continuously improve the department via training, procedures and documentation.
Please give some lore about your Security Captain character and what storylines they would be involved in:
The beginning
Zee Darrow, born 06/05/1993, started life in a small town in Wisconsin. Unexceptional in nearly all regards, he had found little reason to stray far from town, except for maybe the occasional trip to the coast or a nearby city. After graduating high school he went away to study epidemiology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. This was short lived however, as he quickly realised that academic life wasn't for him and returned home, upon which time he joined the local police department. Gradually rising through the ranks, on the cusp of making lieutenant, he was finding reasonable success and was able to live a comfortable life with his cat, Loki.
The event
Just days before finding out if he was successful in becoming lieutant, the incident happened. What had started as a relatively innovative approach by town officials to counter the coyote problem, had rapidly turned the town into a veritable warzone. There were bears everywhere. Not just a couple, hundreds of the things, and the worst thing was, if you killed one... Two would come back. That was the effect of SCP-2875 he would find out later. They tried to fight the outbreak as best they could, but with men dropping like flies to the rapidly multiplying bears, everything they did seemed to make the situation magnitudes worse. So they ran. Cowardice? Maybe. But he knew a losing battle when he saw it.
One by one they were picked off, but by a stroke of sheer luck (and likely the presence of easier prey) Zee made it far enough away that the screams started to fade out. That's when he ran into MTF Lambda-2 "Chain Gang", or more precisely the butt of one of their guns as they headed into town. As one of the only people to make it out of the town alive, information he provided proved invaluable to the MTF tasked with containing the phenomenon. In return he was given an ultimatum: Join the foundation, where he could put his policing skills to use, or be injected with a healthy does of amnestics (enough to make him forget his hometown altogether) and dropped off in some random city.
The foundation
Foundation life took some getting used to. Every day meant dealing with people across the whole spectrum: From secret agent types and MTF operatives to the unlucky D-class and their research "colleagues", each brought their own challenges. As time went on he slowly slipped into the routine, not that it was particularly easy to tell the time anymore, seeing as people of his rank and occupation were not permitted to get anywhere near the surface. When the opportunity to move into the riot team came up, he jumped at the opportunity, anything that meant he wasn't constantly escorting murderers and researchers of questionable morals. At least that's what he thought, his first assignment in the RRT was to baby sit a D-class informant through code 5s, random IA questioning and past crazed chefs. He managed it though and quickly attained his heavy weapons license and the rank of RRT sergeant.
Some time passed and after seeing the latest report on GSD performance, he knew it was time he stepped up to do his bit. After securing recommendations from several of his captains, he submitted his application. He had high hopes for the promotion, the one he never quite got, back in his old life. Dreams of working with the enigmatic MTF teams to improve the department's combat effectiveness, especially in the face of more and more brazen attacks by CI. Collaborating on training with IA ambassadors to resolve the ethics crisis the department was facing, a focus on proactive education, not reactive punishment, that would be the solution he thought. Who knows, maybe he will get a chance to leave his mark on the foundation, for better, or worse.
