Unable to join server - Game crashes upon reaching "materials/entities/drg_scp714.png is downloading"

The previous few days, I was able to fix this by uninstalling Garry's Mod, and unsubscribing from all addons, however now I am completely unable to join. I play on the 64bit branch, and have never had this problem before.

When trying to join, everything will be fine until I hit "materials/entities/drg_scp714.png is downloading", at which point my game crashes, any help would be awesome.

Hello @Nazu I will try to help u the best i can i see u have re-installed Gmod I have a few ideas that might help
what version of Gmod are u on ? best one is 64 bit
have u verified the integrity of the game files
and what is ur storage like it can cause a game to crash if there is no room to install something

I Had this same exact issue, but heres the solution

Literally just.... wait... it may seem like your game crashed but it didnt, just give it a moment and it will change.

I had this issue too and it took a bit to fix but I just uninstalled and reinstalled addons a bunch of times until it fixed itself. I also had verified the game too. It's been a while since I had this issue so I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it.

It wasn't lol. I left the game on for an hour and it does nothing.

uninstall addons on steam then revo uninstall gmod. select advanced scan

Try this out to potentially fix it:

1. Subscribe to the Content Pack (https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2673143356)
2. Download the most up to date .bsp through this link: https://drive.proton.me/urls/X52FW582QM#0LEdmUR2DqBZ
3. Navigate to "E:\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps"
4. Drop the .bsp into the "maps" folder

5. ---

   Go to your cache folder found in "Steam>steamapps>common>GarrysMod>garrysmod"
6. Delete all files in the "lua" folder that is in the "cache" folder
7. Open the Game (Preferably 64bit Garry's Mod) and go to Options>Multiplayer
8. Where it says "Allow all custom files from server", change that to "Do not download any custom files"
9. Apply it and press OK and try to join the server, it should then let you load in with no infinite freezing or crashes
   
   Otherwise you will have to reinstall your garrysmod, delete all your workshop files, and download the server's content pack again (a full reset). This is the only known fix from what I can tell across a multitude of support tickets on the discord, and CN discord.
