Exec Researcher

Have you received any kicks/bans/warning? and why?:
No, I am clean.

Why are you applying for Director of Research?
I am applying to become the DoR because I feel as if I have become an integral part of the Research team. Although I am considered newer to the team compared to some members. I fell in love with the research department due to its members and amazing leadership team that brought me in with welcoming arms and mentored me to where I am today. I want to continue to grow research with my many innovative ideas and keep improving it little by little. I love all the RP and LARP I have helped conjure during my time in the research department and want to continue to be that guiding figure for Juniors to Execs. I will continue to grow and develop the research department and create as many RP scenarios I can for research to keep it not just alive but thriving.

What makes you suitable for Director of Research?:
I would make a suitable Director of Research because of my willingness to work with others. I have shown to be friendly and approachable. Next updating the templates and availability of information so researchers do not have to rely on external links for crucial information on their access to SCPs.

Communication
Expanding on why my communication would make me suitable for director. When I go around the site I speak to a lot of our researchers and see what they find enjoyable and unenjoyable/difficult. The results I have gotten were

Cons.
  • Documentation writing taking double the time to write then the outcome of RP
  • Research being hard for new players
  • The need to go to external documents for crucial information. Ex Cross testing Guide, Specific SCP guidelines and signatures needed, and SCP Descriptions
  • Immersion was being affected
  • Extra burden on our exec team to answer questions taking away from their time to RP. Which will lead to burnout for the command team.

Solutions Implemented

Documentation
  • I brought our documentation template being out of date to the attention of Director Josh Blondeau. We worked together as well as posting a discussion for the Exec team to vote and discuss to ensure we were getting everyone’s opinion. Taking the document from 17 pages down to 13 merging sections and making certain pages optional to complete. Adding descriptions of what we expect on each page for ease of understanding.

Crucial Information
  • The way I went about fixing this issue was by going over to the UK Site-65 as I heard they had good posters. I worked with Exec Walter who made most of the posters on the UK side. Walter helped me get all the PST files for their posters and gave me permission to bring them back to our site. Where I downloaded a software that would allow me to edit the PST files to make sure the posters fit our regulations on the US side. This helped newer players and relieved a burden on the command team for research as we gave the players an easy to access information guide for all our basic policies for testing and SCP specific guidelines.

Friendly and Approachable

Me being friendly and approachable make me a great fit for DoR. Being a DoR you need to speak with your Exec team in a calm and professional manner as well people need to feel comfortable bringing issues to you. This has been proven by researchers constantly coming up to me with issues that they think could improve RSD and being comfortable to answer any questions I have about the state of RSD. I have become a known fixture to read documents and be someone who will give any document the time of day and honest improvements if needed.

Plans for the Future
If I become director of research I will work closely with Josh and the exec team on projects and a good direction for research
  • Plan to continue to develop our posters
  • Setup a more structured meeting for RSD Command
  • Re discuss our documents policy and see if it needs change
  • Add missing SCPs to our SCP Testing Restrictions.
  • Create an Archive for the SCPs with Desc(Bean is spearheading this rn doing absolutely incredible work!)
  • Bring RSD back to its basics(294 Output tests, 1025 List of diseases documented.)

What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?:
The Director of Research is responsible for the health and activity of RSD. Making sure RSD is running like a well oiled machine. Work with Site Administration and Site Command when working on policies for the department. DoRs would also continue to read documents and sign research tests requiring their signature. During Code 5 ensuring DoR help evacuate their RSD to either the breach shelter or during a Code Black to EZ Garage. Lastly

Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in:

The Mission

Elias Watch alongside Joint-Task-Force-2 was sent on a reconnaissance mission to watch the Camden waters for activity in Northern Canada. Watch’s Team consisted of Mercer, his 2nd in command also known as our Spotter. Walter, the communication specialist. Lastly, Husk our machine gunner.

The Beginning of Watch Journey

INTERVIEWER Dr. Harper
INTERVIEWEE Elias Watch
Harper: “Please state your name and former position”

Watch: “Elias Watch, Former Reconnaissance Specialist with Joint-Task-Force-2”

Harper: “You were recovered alone. What do you remember”

Watch: We were on a standard recon mission in Northern Canada. Visibility was already bad, then it got worse. Full whiteout conditions just snow. We tightened our spacing keeping line of sight… [Pause] Then… Mercer was gone.

Harper: Rank and relationship?
Watch: Corporal Daniel Mercer. Our Spotter… My best friend.

Harper: What happened after Mercer disappeared.

Watch: We held position. I tried to radio it in. No response. The radio was trash. Then.. Mercer came back. Out of the thick storm. At first I felt relieved but then he got closer. Mercer was bleeding from his nose and mouth; he looked like he’d been in a fight.

Harper: Did he communicate with you?

Watch: He tried. But it was like he forgot how. His words… They came out wrong. Out of order.

Harper: Expand?

Watch: He said: Don’t see you let it yet.

Harper: What did you do?

Watch: I wanted to extract but all I could do was yell HALT HALT!. He just kept walking toward us bleeding more and more rambling incoherent words.

Harper: Then?

Watch: Then Walter moved to help. Mercer turned at a speed that wasn't human. It was like he was possessed. Then Walter dropped.

Harper: What caused this?

Watch: I don’t know… But… Mercer didn't even react. That's when I knew that was not Mercer.

Harper: Explain.

Watch: I don’t know! This was before I knew the world was full of these anomalies.

Harper: Continuing, how did your remaining team respond?

Watch: They opened fire. I was still stuck trying to assess the situation. He didn't even react to the bullets! As each member of my team dropped.

Harper: What did you do when your team dropped?

Watch: I ran. I broke my pattern and ran in a zig zag. I heard the incoherent rambling of my team as I ran.

Harper: How were you recovered?

Watch: I don’t remember. I think your operatives found me.

Harper: Thank you for your time Mr. Watch. I would like to invite you to work for us.

Watch: Can I stop these events from happening?

Harper: Yes. That's our research department's job.

Watch: Then that's where I'll go. I will get my revenge.

Harper: Welcome to the foundation Elias Watch. We Secure Contain Protect.

[END LOG]

Jr Researcher Watch
Harper:
Welcome back, we will be starting the routine evaluation of Junior Researcher Elias Watch. Please state your name and current role.

Watch: Elias Watch, Junior Researcher. Assigned to the study of SCP-[REDACTED]

Harper: You have been with us for 6 months. Prior military background. How are you adjusting to life at the foundation?

Watch: Familiar Structure. Anomalies not so much.

Harper: Thank you. I wanted to say your reports have been thorough. More than required.

Watch: Incomplete information leads to bad assumptions.

Harper: You're not in the Task Force anymore. Watch so you can relax.

Watch: Respectfully Harper you must always be ready.

Harper: Changing topics iv brought you in to raise your clearance to Level 2 for your outstanding work.

Watch: Thank you, is that all? I have research I need to conduct.

Harper: Keeping yourself busy as always. Take time to rest. Watch, don't overwork yourself.

Watch: Thank you for your concern but I am good.

Exec Researcher Watch

Site Administration: The session is now in order. Elias Watch you are being considered for Director of Research at Site-65. State your name and current role for the record.

Watch: Elias Watch, Executive Researcher.

Site Administration: Your Rise has been quick. Junior to Executive in under a decade. Tell us Why.

Watch: Efficiency Sir.

Site Administration: Elaborate on that.

Watch: I identify problems and patterns quickly. I act on them before they become uncontrollable.

Site Administration: Some would say you prioritize containment over safety.

Watch: Failure to contain these anomalies will cost more lives than precautionary measures.

Site Administration: Answer the question Watch.

Watch: Personnel safety is always changing. Containment is constant.

Site Administration: You have bent the rules multiple times. In each case your choices were… Correct.

Watch: My recommendations have prevented three containment breaches this year alone. Each of my choices were preemptive with full justification.

Site Administration: Are you making decisions based on data or on expectation of actions.

Watch: There is no difference.

Site Administration:
That is not an acceptable answer Watch.

Watch:
It’s Accurate.

Site Administration:
Then explain.

Watch: Every containment breach you're worried about didn’t happen because of my actions.

Site Administration: That's not proof.

Watch: It's proof. You don’t need to understand how I reach my conclusions. You decide if you prefer results before events or after.

Site Administration: Step out.

[Brief Pause]

[Watch Reenters]

Site Administrations: Elias Watch we hereby decide to appoint you to Director of Research on Site-65. Pack your things.

Watch: Understood Sir.

++ MEGA Support!

Ever since I first met Andrew, he's been the most interesting and creative researcher I have ever met! He always helps Juniors when it comes to documentation or general assistance! Andrew is a blessing to RSD, and I am glad to have met him when he was only just a researcher.

Remember Andrew 500-12.

I've had the joy of working with Snow for a couple of months now, and they have been full of entertainment. He is very thorough in each document he writes and comes up with fantastic tests. Even from the start, when he was a Jr, I was already impressed with the way he thought about documenting and running experiments. Snow is extremely personable and will give anyone the time of day to read their documents.
