Have you received any kicks/bans/warning? and why?:
Yes, I was banned in August of 2023 for RDMing as a Thaumatologist, which was poor judgement on my part. I did not enjoy the politics of the site at the time, and I had decided to leave. With my judgement clouded while seething with rage, I decided to try and go for a permanent ban while RDMing multiple people. I have also received a warning for FailRP when shooting a CI in the back while cornered in RSW.

Why are you applying for Director of Research?
When I first joined the server over two years ago, I remember that my first ever experience was with a former player known as Ace Rainer. When I was on D-Class, he gave me a tour of how things were being ran, and inspired me to partake in the Research Department. His kind words and encouragement reached to me. After our interaction, I had a personal goal in mind: To help others the way he helped me. Ever since then, I have strictly focused on the RP side of the server, and promoting and partaking in excellent RP around the board. During my first term as Executive, I continuously helped and onboarded new RSD members and assisted with policy revisions under Departmental Director Lunaro's leadership. alongside with helping fellow Executives like Darby, Thorn and 'Adagio' Elderwood keep the Research Department up to standard.
My contributions extended beyond the Research Department itself. I worked closely with other Clearance 4 personnel throughout various departments, including MTF E-11 Commissioned Officers like Skyfire (Now known as Hei Liu), Medical staff, and General Security Captains like Bob 'Comrade' Smit from back in the day to ensure that our Research Personnel were not behaving in such a manner that would be problematic. These collaborations strengthened interdepartmental communication and assisted us in trying to uphold professional standards across the server. Many of these individuals have remained in the community, and upon my return to the server, I reconnected with them and continued these working relationships to this day which I will elaborate more on below.
In my early return two months ago before I became an Executive again, a large majority of the Research Leadership were not around and present on site. This was before Desmond's promotion to Director of Research. Deeply saddened by the state of the department, and the lack of leadership on site, I took the initiative to try and be there for the Research Personnel who needed key leadership for guidance. Other members of the department were also concerned, and voice it to me. I decided to talk to Site Administration to make an attempt at fixing the issue, with slight success. However, the approach of the subject was executed poorly on my behalf, to which I hold myself accountable to this day.
Internally, I have also been working alongside Director Desmond to explore and implement fresh ideas within the Research Department. I will admit, my passion for this department drives me to push hard for positive changes, but I hold myself accountable for maintaining professionalism and ensuring my dedication translates into results that would benefit both Site Administration and the Research Department. A former executive and I helped push for the current list of responsibilities that the Senior Executives hold to help take pressure off of the Directors to avoid excessive burnout, in an attempt to make the role more fun and engaging for anyone who wishes to maintain the role.
Going back to my previous statement, I wish to help other members of the research department, whether they are veteran players returning or completely new ones joining the server for the first time to feel the same way I did when I initially joined. My end goal is for the research department to be a welcoming, fun and overall positive experience for those who want to give research a try. As the Senior Executive overseeing the onboarding and training of newly appointed Executives, a role we refer to as Training and Supervision Lead, I have had the opportunity to bring this vision to life, alongside ensuring the next generation of Executives are professional and courteous. Working alongside Director Desmond, I take the time to personally mentor new Junior Researchers, guiding them just as Ace Rainer once guided me. I personally believe if I were to be given an opportunity to work alongside Site Administration and Site Command, I could easily assist them not only on a vision of what they would like to see, but to also help foster this idea that I hold so dearly.
What makes you suitable for Director of Research?:
I am going to be reiterating on the previous question a little bit.
I believe I’m highly suited for the position of Director of Research because of my leadership experience, collaborative approach, and the clear vision I have for the department’s future. During my time as an Executive, I helped onboard new Research Division members, assisted with policy revisions, and worked closely with fellow executives to maintain the department’s standards. In my current role as Senior Executive overseeing Training and Supervision, I personally mentor new Junior Researchers and guide newly appointed Executives, which has allowed me to help shape and develop the department from the ground up.
My work hasn’t stopped within the Research Department alone. I’ve collaborated with MTF E-11 Commissioned Officers, Medical staff, and General Security Captains to strengthen communication across departments and ensure that Research Personnel uphold professional standards at all times. I believe building strong relationships outside of our own department is essential to maintaining a healthy, cooperative environment across the site as a whole. Even as of recent, I have been working alongside other Departmental Directors like ISD Director Evender Krennic and Director of Medicine Brenjamin when I witness key issues or wish to commend the actions of personnel within our respective departments.
When leadership within the Research Department was lacking, I took the initiative to step in and provide guidance to Research Personnel even before I returned as an Executive. Since then, I’ve worked alongside Director Desmond to bring fresh ideas to the department and push for positive change. My passion for the community goes all the way back to when I first joined the server and had such a positive experience as a new player. That moment inspired me to make the department just as welcoming and enjoyable for others, whether they’re veteran players returning or brand-new ones joining for the first time. I also hold myself accountable whenever things could have been handled better because I believe professionalism, self-awareness, and maturity are essential qualities for anyone in a leadership role.
Above all, I have a clear vision for the Research Department: to make it a professional, engaging, and positive environment for everyone while working closely with Site Administration and Site Command to bring that vision to life. My experience, dedication, and proactive approach are why I believe I can help lead the Research Department toward its full potential.
What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?:
A Director of Research carries a wide range of responsibilities that are essential to the success and professionalism of the Research Department. One of the core duties is the oversight and management of all paperwork, documentation, and standard operating procedures related to Research Personnel. This ensures that all research activities are conducted in full compliance with site regulations and established protocols, maintaining both order and accountability within the department.
Beyond administrative work, Directors are tasked with supervising the entire Research Department. This includes providing direct mentorship to new members of the research team, helping them understand their roles, responsibilities, and the expectations of the department. As part of this mentorship, Directors often assign research tasks or experimental projects to their team members, encouraging initiative and innovation while looking for opportunities to expand the department’s knowledge base.
At the same time, Directors are responsible for identifying promising candidates for leadership positions within the department. When new or aspiring Executive Researchers demonstrate potential through dedication, professionalism, and strong performance, the Directors work together to conduct interviews, evaluate the candidate’s suitability, and consult the rest of the Executive team to determine whether they would be a valuable addition to leadership.
Equally important, Directors of Research serve as a bridge between the Research Department and the rest of the site’s leadership structure. They maintain positive and professional relationships with other Department Directors to ensure smooth cooperation across all departments. They frequently attend meetings with Site Administration and other high-ranking personnel to stay aligned with site-wide initiatives and expectations. Additionally, they organize and host internal meetings for the Executive Research Team to review departmental progress, address any concerns, and ensure that daily operations run as efficiently as possible.
To summarize, the Director of Research is expected to balance administrative oversight, mentorship, interdepartmental collaboration, and strategic leadership. Through this, they help cultivate a professional, productive, and engaging environment for all Research Personnel while ensuring the department continues to grow and thrive in alignment with the broader goals of the site.
Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in:
Maxwell Shepherd is a dedicated and loyal Senior Researcher of the SCP Foundation. Maxwell was born in Colts Neck, New Jersey on July 7th, 1989 to Evelyn and Dominic Shepherd. At a young age, Maxwell took an interest in wanting to find and understand the unexplained. In high school, Maxwell excelled in the field of mathematics and science, eventually graduating with high grades and applying to Thomas Jefferson University. After four years, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
After his graduation, he was approached by a private military contractor that required his expertise for weapon development. Maxwell began his career in the research and development of prototype weaponry that the company sold to agencies around the world. One of his assignment involved him overseeing a deal to an unknown buyer before being transferred to another research and development facility across the US. While Maxwell was in the process studying notes for a new potential weapon on the day of the meet, the convoy was ambushed by the Chaos Insurgency and was rendered unconscious after his vehicle was rammed off road.
Several days after the incident happened, he awoke in a medical room with a Foundation recruitment officer reviewing Maxwell's notes. Maxwell was offered a position as an intern for the SCP Foundation at Site-13, and worked there for several years. After some time working for the Foundation, he learned valuable skills and knowledge on various SCP Objects and the goals of the foundation, to which he learned to grow appreciation for the cause they had.
On one fateful day, the Director of Site-13 had written a transfer order to Site-65 along with a promotion to Junior Researcher for Maxwell, marking the first day of a bright future for his career in the foundation.
With the guidance of seasoned researchers, he began to conduct several important tests that allowed the Foundation to learn new discoveries about the contained SCPs via chemical research. To this day, he continues to work vigilantly in hopes to maintain the goals the foundation has set up for him.
Shortly after his transfer to Site-65 from Site-13, Maxwell Shepherd was taken under the wing of a Senior Researcher working at the Site for quite some time. After some time, Maxwell received several promotions in quick succession for his overall support and dedication to the Foundation and his work at Site-65. One day, he was offered a position on the Executive Researcher Team after an evaluation report and interview by the Director of Research at the time. Maxwell graciously accepted the position and continued to dedicate his work for the research department.
Taking his experience from Site-13 and the protocols to heart, Maxwell became known for working closely with Internal Affairs with cracking down on conduct and Ethical violations on site, along with conducting and supervising very critical tests. As the days went by, more members of the Research Division began coming forward to Maxwell on advice and various test petitions.
One early morning, a mass breach occurred while all other Site Command members were off site with Maxwell taking the initiative to coordinate the breach. Maxwell worked with personnel on site to restore power to several key systems within the facility, along with the containment of one SCP. During the course of the breach, Maxwell witnessed several violations against the code of conduct and took note of them. Several hours after this incident, additional personnel arrived on site and took over the situation, successfully ending the situation. With the coordination of the site during the breach a minor success, Maxwell felt as if his expertise could benefit the foundation in other ways.
Maxwell was eventually accepted into the Ethics Committee as an assistant. He worked hard with the Committee to ensure that all ethics codes were being followed. He worked with Epsilon-11, and the Internal Affairs Division, now known as the Internal Security Department. After several months, Maxwell ended up resigning from his post as an assistant after several incidents had taken place pushed him to his limits. Maxwell requested a transfer to a different site, and was granted the request. He had kept in contact with several of his associates that he could call his friends, but kept working at an undisclosed location for the Foundation.
Until recently.
Maxwell was transferred back to Site-65 as per his request, and met a few of his fellow peers from all that time ago. He was astonished to see the new changes that had been made to the site. Now, Maxwell was filled with a new determination to continue his work, and ensuring the continued prosperity of the Foundation.
Upon returning to Site-65, Maxwell Shepherd quickly reacquainted himself with the Research Division, noticing the significant changes in structure, leadership, and operational standards since his earlier years there. Despite his time away, many staff members remembered Maxwell’s leadership during the previous site breach and his dedication to ethics, professionalism, and proper containment protocol. His return carried weight, as both junior researchers and fellow executives sought his advice on procedures, disciplinary matters, and research proposals.
Recognizing a gap in consistent leadership and mentorship within the department, Maxwell began taking the initiative to guide new researchers and offer strategic support to the Research Leadership team. He frequently collaborated with the Director of Research and other Clearance Level 4 personnel, lending his experience in ethics compliance, interdepartmental coordination, and crisis response to help strengthen operational standards.
When the Senior Executive position opened, Maxwell’s reputation for ethical integrity, decisive leadership during emergencies, and dedication to mentorship made him a natural candidate. After a thorough review of his service record, Maxwell Shepherd was officially promoted to Senior Executive Researcher.
In his new role, Maxwell took on expanded responsibilities: overseeing training for newly promoted Executives, assisting in disciplinary action guidelines, and serving as a direct advisor to the Director of Research on matters ranging from disciplinary actions to experimental oversight. His career came full circle as he began mentoring the next generation of researchers the same way he had once been mentored when he first joined the Foundation.
