Why do you want to join the Global Occult Coalition?:
I've always enjoyed my time as GOC, even when I hated it forever ago when relations were not great. The people truly make or break the faction, it's a niche GOI that has had an important role to fulfill in the surface RP aspect of the server that unfortunately did not get much opportunity to arise. It's not brainless killing like CI, and it's not as strict as Foundation, a nice middle ground where you can relax, and truly engage with the few players who share that niche.
Why was the Global Occult Coalition founded?:
The GOC was founded when the nazi's tried to use the rite of solomon to their advantage during WWII/Seventh Occult War. Because of the severity of the threat, in order to eliminate the potential of that happening again, the GOC was born.
What does the PHYSICS, PSYCHE, and PTOLEMY Divisions specialize in and give an example of some functions they do:
Physics is the big stick the GOC whacks people over the head with. They do the shooting, boots on the ground stuff like raiding GOI's, capturing/eliminating parathreats, etc.
Psyche are the eyes, the scouts, intelligence side of things. They gather information from the opposing forces, conjure plans of action, basically the recon/planning roles belong there.
Ptolemy is the medical/research section, using the knowledge gathered from the other jobs and their findings to develop weapons, medicines, etc to aid in the fight against the paranormal and other threats to humanity.
What are the Global Occult Coalition's goals?:
The GOC's main goal is to protect humanity, at all costs, with a very "The end justifies the means" attitude toward pursuing that.
The Five Fold Mission encapsulates their mentality, prioritizing the survival of the human race over all else, whilst also highlighting their priorities and preferences in achieving that goal.
Unlike the insurgency, they care about secrecy, upholding the veil, and not allowing others to casually roam around exposing the paranormal world to average people. Unlike the foundation, it is not their primary concern, should a situation warrant the necessity of divulging information to ensure the success of the task at hand, or the survival of many people, they'd be willing to set that aside.
The GOC do not hold research as high of a priority as the foundation does; The GOC understands the importance of studying the occult in order to combat it, but not nearly to the point where they'd be willing to dump countless resources and human lives into imprisoning them like the foundation does, if an entity is a known problem, they'd much rather just liquidate it and be done with it.
Even though i'd argue the GOC has the most positive perspective on the value of human lives, that doesn't mean that is their priority (and this differs from the survival of humanity). The GOC cares about the men and women in their ranks, and civilians, but that doesn't mean they'll hesitate to make a decision when it's clear there will be casualties. The foundation has an entire department of their most trusted personnel dedicated to answering the "is it worth it?" question, The GOC do not have this issue, everyone knows exactly what they signed up for: Risking their lives to protect humanity. Not as many secrets, bureaucratic hoops and hurdles, etc. As a member of the GOC, you're given information much more freely, because it's often critical to your survival. The command structure as well allows for much quicker decision making.
What makes the Global Occult Coalition different in in-comparison to the other groups within the SCP-universe in your view?:
I kind of threw that in at each opportunity I had but here's some more on their key differences:
The #1 GOI that dedicates itself to protecting humanity, no other GOI has it as their absolute do or die prerogative.
There's a method to their madness, with very few exceptions, they don't like declaring all out war and burning bridges. (Not considering the server, CI and GOC would never be friends, as CI's mission goes against every single core value the GOC has. The only reason the GOC would ever give CI the light of day, is for extremely situational cases where their contribution can either make or break a scenario, and even then they would be treated with extreme caution. Aside from the foundation and MC&D, i'd consider them to be one of the more neutral/reasonable groups, where their mission doesn't necessarily conflict with majority other factions, and in the cases that it does, it's enough wiggle room for them to consider the options and make exceptions when needed.
I find the GOC's treatment of the paranormal to be unique. Most other groups see the paranormal as a positive force, the foundation i'd argue are more neutral, given their blatant abuse of beneficial SCP's, much like MC&D using them for profit. I think the GOC would be the guys who'd press the button in the hypothetical situation where the world turns into a boring, uneventful but relatively safe environment at the cost of removing every supernatural entity. Even more "out there" groups like, wondertainment, church of the broken god, Serpent's Hand, I'd argue most of them would all prefer to live in a world where the paranormal exists for their own respective reasons.
