Ryan Stekken worked as a lead chemist in a chemical research facility belonging to a globally operating pharmaceutical company before joining the Foundation. After joining the Foundation, he worked as a Researcher with his promotion to Executive Researcher being the latest. Most of his work revolves around chemistry which seems to be his specialty even before the Foundation. After his transfer to the position of an Ethics Committee Assistant, Ryan Stekken is responsible for helping the Research Department in any Ethics related issues that might arise as they always do.

[Audio Transcript - Excerpt 1]
Ryan:
Well, today we had something unusual coming in. Not because the item is unusual, but the delivery apparently came from a subsidiary of ours in South-East Asia. Didn’t know we had any there.

[Voice inaudible]

Ryan:
Hmm… That’s odd. I might have to ask some higher-ups if they know anything about that.

[News]
News anchor:
Reports of a chemical spill in [REDACTED] reach us right now. Chemicals like hydrogen cyanide and mercury compounds are leaking into the surrounding areas. Several areas are to be evacuated until all decontamination efforts has been completed.
[Audio Transcript - Excerpt 2]
Lead Researcher:
Help me with the door here, will ya?

Ryan:
You want to go in there? Are you crazy? You saw what happened to the others as soon as they went in there!

*Screams with a painful tone can be heard*

Lead Researcher:
Have ya looked at him? We cannot just leave him in there to die!” [tries to open the door]

Ryan:
No! Don’t do it!

Lead Researcher:
*gets the door open and rushes in*I’m here now! Don’t worry, we can help!

*Sounds of the door closing*

Lead Researcher:
Wait, what are you doing? Open the door! C’mon, open the goddamn door!

Ryan:
I’m sorry but there is no other way…

[Post-incident interview]
???:
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us to help us deal with this on-going situation?

Ryan:
We got a strange delivery before it happened. It said that it came from one of our subsidiaries in South-East Asia which nobody knew that it even existed. When I walked by one of our laboratories, I saw two of my colleagues opening the box with a solid, red substance inside.

???:
Interesting. Do you know what became of them?

Ryan:
You already know the answer to that…

???:
Why did you leave them to their death?

Ryan:
"Do I really have to answer the question?

???:
Yes, please.

Ryan:
I saw that that 'thing' spread to every surface, every person that it touched. They freaked out and then touched everyone and everything that came across them. I figured that the best place for them to be is in a place where they can't infect anybody and anything else.

???:
I see. There are always hard calls that we have to make on our own. Even at the expense of others to protect everyone else. And another is coming to you right now.

Ryan:
What is it going to be?

???:
Work for us and live with the knowledge, the memories and the bad dreams of today. Or you gonna live your normal life without remembering anything about today or that you have worked at that facility at all.

Ryan:
Well, then it is going to be Option A for me. Can I ask you a question?

???:
Sure.

Ryan:
Who are you?

Ethics Committee Member ███████:
I’m a member of the Ethics Committee. Welcome to the Foundation.

[Excerpt from INCIDENT-REPORT-25/A]
[…] resembling red crystals that appear to possess the same chemical structure as water. Multiple researchers working on the samples reported a warm tingling sensation at first. This developed into frost forming on the affected skin which spread until it affected the entire body, turning it into another red crystal. […] Public news was given a cover story of a chemical spill that leaked into the area with the research facility being rendered defunct due to very high levels of hydrogen cyanide and mercury. […]
