Quick Command Wheel (QCW)

What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
This suggestion introduces a Quick Command Wheel (QCW) system, activated by holding a designated key (e.g., Q), which opens a radial menu of customizable, context-based chat commands. This allows personnel to instantly communicate critical information (e.g., SCP breaches, sweep calls, emergency codes) without the need to type manually under stress. Commands vary based on role (Research, GSD, Ethics, MTF, etc.) and clearance level.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
I don't believe this type of system, but similar quick chat was suggested before I think

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
  • Speeds up communication during high-stress moments like riots or breaches. No need to type out long messages.
  • Reduces stress and mistakes, especially for newer or panicked players who might forget what to say.
  • Encourages more in-game communication instead of relying on external chats (Discord, VC).
  • Promotes professionalism and consistency in callouts (everyone says the same thing the same way).
  • Customizable to fit each department’s needs, like fast sweep commands for GENSEC or test callouts for Research.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

  • Might take time to develop and test, especially making sure it works for each role.
  • Could be spammed if not controlled by cooldowns or rank limitations.
  • May cause confusion at first until people get used to the new system.
  • Could clutter the screen if not designed cleanly or if too many options are shown at once.
  • Risk of relying too much on presets, which might limit creativity or unique callouts in rare situations.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
In emergencies, every second counts. This system gives players a fast, clear, and reliable way to communicate without fumbling over a keyboard. It supports teamwork, reduces stress, and helps everyone from new cadets to seasoned commanders respond faster and smarter. As long as it’s implemented carefully, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

Going to be honest and say I understand where this is coming from and why, but I don't like it.
  • Encourages more in-game communication instead of relying on external chats (Discord, VC).
  • Promotes professionalism and consistency in callouts (everyone says the same thing the same way).

Above is the 2 parts of the suggestion that show my dislike for it, partially.
"Encourages more in-game communication instead of relying on external chats (Discord, VC)."

I don't hate this, and I think TS is kind of really annoying and bad, but having pre-written communications would just feel frankly sad and mechanical. It is an RP server, I like people having individual callouts and seeing people write in comms using some quick speak method "X SCP Breached" or "CI sighted at X location" in comms would simply be the opposite of this.

Not to mention how do you RP around that? Not as much for call outs but for everything else - how do you RP around a pre-written statement that everyone on that job can use?

Basically - Yes it would encourage more in-game communication, which is good, but that communication would be equally as void of RP and character as a callout in teamspeak is.

"Promotes professionalism and consistency in callouts (everyone says the same thing the same way)."

This pushes the same idea to me, yes it would be professionalism and consistent but I see no reason to want that from an OOC perspective - I like messy comms, missed messages, just general RP call outs. It is not interesting professionalism because it's not the person being professional, it's just a pre-written message or a collection of them that anyone can use.

Basically - all characters speaking in and calling things out in the exact same way is boring, and a directly the opposite of what I'd want from RP.

There's definitely some holes to the idea, but I think personally this type of quick chat given the customizability could be helpful for more than just the regular player, looking past them, the newer players suffer just as much from tense moments.

Well, how do you RP around Teamspeak? or Discord? or people breaking character in-game comms? The wheel isn’t mandatory. It’s a tool, not a script. Those who want to type out their callouts, ad-lib, or bring full RP to their comms? Still totally free to do so. This is there for the people who freeze under pressure or struggle with typing mid-breach. If anything, it brings more voices into the conversation, especially from newer players.

I like people having individual callouts and seeing people write in comms using some quick speak method "X SCP Breached" or "CI sighted at X location" in comms would simply be the opposite of this.
This change would be a universal character change, so every party would have some type of customization for the wheel, prompting fairness.

Basically - all characters speaking in and calling things out in the exact same way is boring, and a directly the opposite of what I'd want from RP.
The idea of the command wheel isn’t to make everyone sound the same. It’s to help in high-stress moments when there’s a breach, chaos, or a raid going on and typing a full message might be tough. Sometimes your hands shake, you mis-type, or you just freeze. This tool gives you something to fall back on fast, so you can still get important info out to your team. People forget the individuality factor, and adding an option to help people wont mean all you'll see is the same 3 messages.
