Content Suggestion Door Tool for Game Masters

Content Suggestions will be reviewed by Content Team weekly, please allow time as not everything can be reviewed at once.
What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
A new tool for GMs that allows for better interaction mechanics by turning props into doors. However, a prop whitelist would be needed due to not all props can be turned into doors... and because of this, only props that are clearly doors, and many of the construction blocks and plates (referring to Gmod's default props) would be whitelisted. A baby being able to swing as a door wouldn't make sense, and figuring out the math for how it would swing wouldn't be possible.

How it works:

LClick 1: Starts the Setup by selecting the prop

LClick 2:
If already selected prop > Set Hinge based on what side was clicked
If new prop > extend selection (combined selection becomes whole door)
On world > Swing Direction (ignored if sliding)

R:
During Setup: cancel setup
On created door: convert into regular props

E-LClick:
On door: turn whole door into interaction
On prop: turn prop into interaction that toggles door
On Interaction Prop: Link door to interaction prop

RClick: Complete Setup

Settings:

Presets: Foundation Door (most sliding doors), Bulk Sliding Door, Hinged Bulk door, Wooden Door (this is basic hinged doors), and other doors around the map.

Door Settings

Door Type:
  • Hinge (Regular door)
  • Sliding (Hinge turns into slide direction, clicking the middle of the face goes to sliding towards face)
  • Double Hinge (RClick now completes 1 door, Remains link to interactive, and second RClick finishes Double Door)
  • Double Sliding (Same as Sliding, but does the double door just like Double Hinge)
Speed: based on hammer units (will include example increments as a footnote for easier choosing)
Delay: A Delay from Interaction to movement of doors in seconds

Door Sound: Sound Type that includes both HL2 Sounds and On-Server Door Sounds
Hinge Sound: Includes looping sounds during mid-animation, or none at all.

SCP Breakable: Unbreakable, Weak (most doors), Strong (bulk door), Event (only allows event SCPs/Event Roles to break)

Door Chargeable: enables or disable placing door charges on.

Interaction Settings:

Clearance: (Must hold Card to interact) None, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Faction: (extension to Clearance) Foundation, CI, GOC, N/A (N/A ignores Faction, and accepts any faction card... Do this if any clearance can interact)

Biometric: On/Off

Hackable: Yes/No
Door Fault: Yes/No

Interact Sound: Keypad/Lever/Button/etc.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
Unlikely, didn't check though.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
This allows for more immersive Events as it allows freedom for GMs to set up their environments.
This doesn't replace teleport props as this is still important for GM Planes and other events.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
A lot of development time be needed due to calculations needed to make it not janky.
Provided settings might be overwhelming.
It's a physics object, but could be worked around (Edited)

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
I think this would be a great introduction to the GM's toolkit, with plenty of events being able to take advantage of. For example:
  • A door to a Glass Case containing an SCP
  • Doors to a containment chamber containing SCP-???
  • A Grand opening to a large open room.

The GM SWEP can already make TP doors - But moving things can turn into physics interactions. Physics interactions bad. Not good for server performance.
My fault... I have not seen any functional doors outside of it being used to teleport someone to the other side of the door, even if this type of setup would make more sense. And I have never been a GM, so I wouldn't know.

Like, physics doors for event purposes would be nice? Maybe something that animates prop movement but in reality just turns collision on and off based on door closed/open state. Would be nice for events where it's some kind of building in GMPlane that has to be navigated, but around that scale, you start thinking more of event server events, at which point you can dictate the map and set up these kinds of doors on that map, on the event server.

I mean, I can see the use, don't get me wrong - But as good as this would be, the actual use case feels tragically small, in addition to the potential issue of potentially introducing additional physics interactions on servers that are struggling as-is. And of course, these would have to not be entities, either.

If there's a good solution to it that creates something workable, I'd be all for it. But from a practical standpoint, I see far too many issues with development.

Ultimately, I guess I'm
+/- Neutral
But
+Support
if reasonably feasible.

I would not worry, Sans Undertale. It is okay! Not everyone is expected to know every little detail! I can't lie, the suggestion is kind of fire though, but █████ ██ ██ ██████ ██████ ████ ████ ████ ██ ███████ █████ ██████!

Like Lily said above, goated suggestion, however ████ ██ ███████ ██████ ██ ███ ████ ████ ███ ██████ ██████.

Don't worry about it pal! The GM team is just memeing on this thread because ██ ████ ████ ████ ██ ███████ ███████, ██ █████████ ███ ██████████ █████!
