Your in-game name: A. Oyabun

Your SteamID: STEAM_0:0:63467374

Previous rank: Gamemaster

Are you appealing a Staff resignation, demotion or blacklist: Demotion

Date of demotion: 07/05/2026 (May 7th, 2026)

Have you received any kicks/warns/bans, and if so, why: https://civilnetworks.net/community/attachments/1776805477906-png.27491/

I can elaborate on these when asked

Who demoted you: James Dingle

Why were you demoted: Violation of Section 1 of the staff handbook, Player Respect.

Why should you return: I am going to appeal each of these claims one by one with evidence. The current appeal table doesn't allow for much in terms of formatting so I will be typing first and then adding photo evidence afterwards.

Inciting hysteria & witch hunting / "Shitstirring"

"Recent trend of going out of your way to get involved with things that are none of your business or showing a complete inability to fact find before spreading misinformation within the community about players and other staff members."

Let me start off by addressing this main point despite how vague it sounds. In my 8 months since my return to this server, I had no major bits of drama or incidents up until this point. There was one issue regarding a sensitive situation that was handled internally by members of Network Leadership and Yeke and upon investigation I was cleared of wrong-doing and no punishment was dealt, beyond that there was no major incident up until this point.

"Again, this goes hand in hand with the above. Your conduct surrounding Julien and this "vote of no confidence" has had a profound impact on Julien and how other people perceive him within the community."

This point goes in tandem with the initial one mentioned above. Prior to my appeal to O5 regarding Julien, I have not shown him any ill will or negative behaviors and have been cooperative with him whenever an issue OOC/IC has arisen. The "vote of no confidence" was not really a vote at all. I had simply reached out to several department leaders and members of SA with the simple question asking "what do you think of Julien as Site Director". I did not ask any leading questions prior to this nor did I ever ask if they disliked Julien or wanted him removed. The response I have received from several people was negative, either within the realm of objectivity or their own personal opinions. I have done nothing to cause them to come to these conclusions nor have I had any influence in swaying their opinion on Julien.

Evidently, it seems that Julien himself is to blame for the shift in opinion surrounding him, whether this is because of his behavior as ECC/SD, his alleged 'micromanaging' of department leaders causing internal frustrations, or his outright toxic behavior on the forums that was displayed earlier this week/month. To say that I had a profound impact on how other people perceive him is ludicrous at best and ignorant at worst.

"Going around and asking other community members what problems they have with Julien, looking for issues to add to your list despite none of you having had a conversation with him nor understanding his thought process and becoming some sort of ring leader / baton bearer for this complaint."

Again, I will show evidence when I can but the initial opening question was "What do you think of Julien as Site Director?" I was not actively looking for issues others had with him; the community members had chosen to divulge their issues with him as per my initial inquiry. When I asked them to elaborate, they stated their reasonings. 2 days ago, on the 5th of May, I was pulled into a Teamspeak channel with Dingle and Pennington (Current UK O5-1). During this talk, we discussed the approach I was taking and I was advised to reach out to Julien to talk to him to address any of the issues at hand before I continued my appeal with O5. I, of course agreed because I would ultimately prefer to give Julien the floor to address any issues so we can hopefully put this behind us. I reached out to Julien in private DMs to talk about any issues and he coldly shut my down asking me to send out a message over discord and that he doesn't have time to reply in Teamspeak. I personally do not believe this to be true, as Julien spends most of his time in Teamspeak and could allocate 10-15 mins to have a discussion with me at any point throughout the week. I personally made myself open and willing to understand his thought process and was not given a chance to do so. Evidence will be provided regarding this.

"A list of SA issues that other members have of the community have brought up to me to mention to Julien in the talk I was planning to have with him. The list of presented issues that you raised with myself and Pennington last night are all complete in-character happenings and the level of mixing you've displayed to bring this to an OOC level without even an attempt to rectify this in-character is quite strange."

I believe the appeal to a member of the O5 regarding the conduct of a Site Director is an in-character issue. The policies he has taken, which he is free to do so and is not a point I am refuting, could potentially be seen a detrimental to the roleplay of other players and departments. I do not understand where this constitutes mixing as I never took personal issue with the changes or points brought up nor did I even have the chance to discuss them with Julien to understand if I had been taking issue with them out of character.

General disrespectful behaviour

"Looking at your activity on most platforms, you can't seem to help yourself but to drop a sarcastic comment here, a disrespectful comment there. There is a difference between being direct and being disrespectful / belittling others and it seems that you don't understand how to walk that line."

This point is moot as other members have staff have personally conducted themselves in similar manners, especially other GMs. There is also a fine line between banter and being disrespectful towards other. I have never made it my intention to personally target, harass, besmirch, intimidate, belittle, degrade, or humiliate another person on this server, whether it is through the forums, Teamspeak, Discord, or on the physical server itself. Any incidents that the SSL team would like to bring can be elaborated on. Furthermore, I have made it a staunch effort to foster a welcoming community within the regiment I currently help manage in E-11 and have taken steps to blacklist others who engage in toxic behaviors from the regiment. If I ever felt like I have crossed the line, I often reach out to the offended and try to settle the issues amicably.

"Disrespectful comments towards promoted individuals because the person you didn't want to be promoted was not chosen."

This point is absurd and churlish and only serves to paint me in a negative light. This was in regards to the promotion of Broda to Site Advisor. I do not have any issues with Broda nor do I harbor any ill will with Broda at all. A small chat with him can confirm all of our interactions both past and present have been kind and supportive, especially during our work testing the mesh editor.

The incident is in regards to a player called Bubbles getting passed up for the role. In the evidence provided, I mention that while I do wish it was Bubbles that got the role, I congratulated Broda and let him know that he did well. I do not believe that at any point this was disrespectful or toxic. Furthermore, when prompted about this being extremely toxic behavior by the current SD, I promptly apologized and clarified that it was not my intent to be toxic in any capacity. I even left a +Support on Broda's own application, indicating that I believed him fit for the role.

"Consistent fuelling of the anti-content fire by posting various different slights in the discord"

I frankly do not understand what is "anti-content fire". I do not reserve any hatred towards the content team or the members of the content team. I actively engage in using the suggestion forum to make my voice heard about issues or changes that I believe would benefit the server and have had discussions with members of the content team regarding changes they have made. I believe I have exercised my right to voice my opinion on a public forum and while I may have been critical to some of the decisions that have been made, I never went out of my way to harass. humiliate, or insult any my member of the content team for making changes.

"Engagement baiting on sensitive or private topics as a way to garner sympathy or invite investigation into other players"

Again, this is regarding an issue that Network Leadership had handled with me in the past and have cleared me of wrong-doing. I do not believe it should have ever been a relevant point for this appeal. I understand that it could definitely be a mark on my record but since the situation I have taken the steps to grow and change as a person.

Support given to Broda on his app. Broda did not reach out in DMs.

I'm not really sure how it matters that he didn't reach out.. You're cool dude but umm.. I'd like to say he has at least a tiny bit more experience in the role than you do </3 His chances for reaching out are even slimmer due to you leaving a support anyway.

Idk, overall it seems like you kinda took the situation into your own hands far too much? Maybe thats just my pov of the situation. If theres issues then there are official channels to go through to resolve them dude!! And if they dont work out, then theres resolutions to that as well! And if that doesnt.. Then maybe the issue lays elsewhere?

Anywho, your events and RP was cool so it'd be nice to see you back as GM, but idk how this'll go!!!

Hey Lily! I was never currently in the running for the role of SA nor did I have any plans to apply for the role recently. I have no issues with him applying at all and just wanted a small thing elaborate on. Him not replying is in no way, shape, or form an indictment against him, I just thought to mention to show that I had zero issue with him applying for and receiving the role of SA.

dont say never when you infact applied for SA before

anyway i see no issue with gathering feedback for a person thats in such an important role as site director, especially since they never applied for the role on the forums?? thinker....

this demotion was not valid as they had not done anything wrong

Amended to say currently, thanks for reminding me, Ganch!

I have personally only had good interactions with you yet, you approached your complaint to Julien becoming SD the wrong way. If you submit a complaint to O5, you should wait for a response to be given and allow them in a sort of "official capacity" to further inquire about it.
Personally, if somebody were to start asking what is their opinion of me, I wouldn't feel so great about it. That is because when you ask that kind of question, you are implicitly asking if they have any issue with that person.
You have the right to complain but, you just should let those in charge of your complaint handle it how they deem fit! Even if you claim your initial intent wasn't to add issues to your list, when you go around asking people about their opinion on someone even with a neutral question, you are essentially attempting to do just that. You wouldn't do that if you didn't have your own issues with Julien.

Overall, you might have had good intentions but the way you went about it just wasn't right. File a complaint using the appropriate channels rather than going behind people's back like this.
Either way, good luck in your appeal.

Hello Fusili, thanks for replying. I actually had a member of the SSL team reach out to me at some point who informed that the way I was going about things may not be the most productive or beneficial way of going about it and had instead advised me to reach out to O5 directly to try and handle things. Since that message I reached out to O5-1 over DMs and then had further correspondence on Teamspeak where we discussed how I was handling things and what the best method was for moving forward to ensure every party could be heard fairly and equally, hence me reaching out in DMs to talk. My intention was always to go through official channels and I had never planned to force anyone’s hand or publicly embarrass anyone in any capacity.

Ok so I will say this. While reading at first I did not really find an issue with you asking people for their opinion. The thing is, I do not understand and still kind of not see the point in you asking people for their opinion on someone getting chosen for a job. It does not seem like something you should really be doing unless you actually need the feedback to determine, for example, what their general performance is to see if they are fit to be selected for the job they are applying for. What I am getting from thiss appeal though, is that not only was this not the case, but you decided to publicly say in discord how you are not content/disagree on someone else getting the position. I don't think this is a case of straight up toxicity, but a clear line was being crossed here by publicly "shaming" on someone who you did not believe that deserved the position. I use quotations here because it wasn't exactly shaming on, but you need to have other people's feelings in mind before doing comments like this. Having different opinions on who deserved the position are ok to have, but going out of your way to ask random people their thoughts on an individual and express your negative opinion on their capacity to do something even though they were chosen for the job to me seems like dissrespect. If you had complains regarding them being chosen you should have just talked to the ones that are in charge of selecting the SD and not make a public scene in discord about your discontent with them. Still, I think a removal from GM team may have been too harsh of a punishment, but I don't know. That's not something for me to decide.

Hey Porrin! Thanks for leaving some feedback. At no point did I ever mention publicly my dissatisfaction with Julien obtaining the role of Site Director. Furthermore, the incident regarding Broda getting SA was done in the E-11 REGCOM thread which is not a public thread in any capacity and is only limited to E-11 REGCOM + SA and above. If Broda was upset or dissatisfied with the answer I have given, he would have let me know like he has done in the past, instead he posted a gif of Tony Soprano smoking a cigar which evidently shows that he did not have an issue with what was said.

Well that is what I interpreted when you mentioned "wish it was bubbles". My apologies then, you may have originally wanted to state how you are sad they did not get the job, but with the current context that is not what the message is really conveying here though, at least not for me.

While I was upset that Bubbles didn’t get the role, I followed it up with a congratulatory message afterwards to Broda for succeeding. Furthermore, after being confronted regarding it, I apologised and made it clear that any perceived toxicity was not my intention.

Even if it is only E-11REGCOM thread. Those types of conversations are better not to be done in public discord servers, even if they are in private channels as to avoid this issues.

Sadly that might just be taken as passive agressiveness to be honest. That being said, this will be my last response regarding this topic, wish you good luck on your case.
