Are you appealing a Staff resignation, demotion or blacklist: Demotion
Date of demotion: 07/05/2026 (May 7th, 2026)
Have you received any kicks/warns/bans, and if so, why: https://civilnetworks.net/community/attachments/1776805477906-png.27491/
I can elaborate on these when asked
Who demoted you: James Dingle
Why were you demoted: Violation of Section 1 of the staff handbook, Player Respect.
Why should you return: I am going to appeal each of these claims one by one with evidence. The current appeal table doesn't allow for much in terms of formatting so I will be typing first and then adding photo evidence afterwards.
Inciting hysteria & witch hunting / "Shitstirring"
"Recent trend of going out of your way to get involved with things that are none of your business or showing a complete inability to fact find before spreading misinformation within the community about players and other staff members."
Let me start off by addressing this main point despite how vague it sounds. In my 8 months since my return to this server, I had no major bits of drama or incidents up until this point. There was one issue regarding a sensitive situation that was handled internally by members of Network Leadership and Yeke and upon investigation I was cleared of wrong-doing and no punishment was dealt, beyond that there was no major incident up until this point.
"Again, this goes hand in hand with the above. Your conduct surrounding Julien and this "vote of no confidence" has had a profound impact on Julien and how other people perceive him within the community."
This point goes in tandem with the initial one mentioned above. Prior to my appeal to O5 regarding Julien, I have not shown him any ill will or negative behaviors and have been cooperative with him whenever an issue OOC/IC has arisen. The "vote of no confidence" was not really a vote at all. I had simply reached out to several department leaders and members of SA with the simple question asking "what do you think of Julien as Site Director". I did not ask any leading questions prior to this nor did I ever ask if they disliked Julien or wanted him removed. The response I have received from several people was negative, either within the realm of objectivity or their own personal opinions. I have done nothing to cause them to come to these conclusions nor have I had any influence in swaying their opinion on Julien.
Evidently, it seems that Julien himself is to blame for the shift in opinion surrounding him, whether this is because of his behavior as ECC/SD, his alleged 'micromanaging' of department leaders causing internal frustrations, or his outright toxic behavior on the forums that was displayed earlier this week/month. To say that I had a profound impact on how other people perceive him is ludicrous at best and ignorant at worst.
"Going around and asking other community members what problems they have with Julien, looking for issues to add to your list despite none of you having had a conversation with him nor understanding his thought process and becoming some sort of ring leader / baton bearer for this complaint."
Again, I will show evidence when I can but the initial opening question was "What do you think of Julien as Site Director?" I was not actively looking for issues others had with him; the community members had chosen to divulge their issues with him as per my initial inquiry. When I asked them to elaborate, they stated their reasonings. 2 days ago, on the 5th of May, I was pulled into a Teamspeak channel with Dingle and Pennington (Current UK O5-1). During this talk, we discussed the approach I was taking and I was advised to reach out to Julien to talk to him to address any of the issues at hand before I continued my appeal with O5. I, of course agreed because I would ultimately prefer to give Julien the floor to address any issues so we can hopefully put this behind us. I reached out to Julien in private DMs to talk about any issues and he coldly shut my down asking me to send out a message over discord and that he doesn't have time to reply in Teamspeak. I personally do not believe this to be true, as Julien spends most of his time in Teamspeak and could allocate 10-15 mins to have a discussion with me at any point throughout the week. I personally made myself open and willing to understand his thought process and was not given a chance to do so. Evidence will be provided regarding this.
"A list of SA issues that other members have of the community have brought up to me to mention to Julien in the talk I was planning to have with him. The list of presented issues that you raised with myself and Pennington last night are all complete in-character happenings and the level of mixing you've displayed to bring this to an OOC level without even an attempt to rectify this in-character is quite strange."
I believe the appeal to a member of the O5 regarding the conduct of a Site Director is an in-character issue. The policies he has taken, which he is free to do so and is not a point I am refuting, could potentially be seen a detrimental to the roleplay of other players and departments. I do not understand where this constitutes mixing as I never took personal issue with the changes or points brought up nor did I even have the chance to discuss them with Julien to understand if I had been taking issue with them out of character.
General disrespectful behaviour
"Looking at your activity on most platforms, you can't seem to help yourself but to drop a sarcastic comment here, a disrespectful comment there. There is a difference between being direct and being disrespectful / belittling others and it seems that you don't understand how to walk that line."
This point is moot as other members have staff have personally conducted themselves in similar manners, especially other GMs. There is also a fine line between banter and being disrespectful towards other. I have never made it my intention to personally target, harass, besmirch, intimidate, belittle, degrade, or humiliate another person on this server, whether it is through the forums, Teamspeak, Discord, or on the physical server itself. Any incidents that the SSL team would like to bring can be elaborated on. Furthermore, I have made it a staunch effort to foster a welcoming community within the regiment I currently help manage in E-11 and have taken steps to blacklist others who engage in toxic behaviors from the regiment. If I ever felt like I have crossed the line, I often reach out to the offended and try to settle the issues amicably.
"Disrespectful comments towards promoted individuals because the person you didn't want to be promoted was not chosen."
This point is absurd and churlish and only serves to paint me in a negative light. This was in regards to the promotion of Broda to Site Advisor. I do not have any issues with Broda nor do I harbor any ill will with Broda at all. A small chat with him can confirm all of our interactions both past and present have been kind and supportive, especially during our work testing the mesh editor.
The incident is in regards to a player called Bubbles getting passed up for the role. In the evidence provided, I mention that while I do wish it was Bubbles that got the role, I congratulated Broda and let him know that he did well. I do not believe that at any point this was disrespectful or toxic. Furthermore, when prompted about this being extremely toxic behavior by the current SD, I promptly apologized and clarified that it was not my intent to be toxic in any capacity. I even left a +Support on Broda's own application, indicating that I believed him fit for the role.
"Consistent fuelling of the anti-content fire by posting various different slights in the discord"
I frankly do not understand what is "anti-content fire". I do not reserve any hatred towards the content team or the members of the content team. I actively engage in using the suggestion forum to make my voice heard about issues or changes that I believe would benefit the server and have had discussions with members of the content team regarding changes they have made. I believe I have exercised my right to voice my opinion on a public forum and while I may have been critical to some of the decisions that have been made, I never went out of my way to harass. humiliate, or insult any my member of the content team for making changes.
"Engagement baiting on sensitive or private topics as a way to garner sympathy or invite investigation into other players"
Again, this is regarding an issue that Network Leadership had handled with me in the past and have cleared me of wrong-doing. I do not believe it should have ever been a relevant point for this appeal. I understand that it could definitely be a mark on my record but since the situation I have taken the steps to grow and change as a person.
