Have you already carried out a level 1 appeal - please give details: I discussed about the situation in private and was told to make a Level 2 appeal.
Who did you carry out the level 1 appeal to, and where: Hitman, over Discord.
Rank demoted from: Consultant
Who demoted you?: Kayla/Hitman
Date of demotion?: 22.06.2024
What server were you demoted from?: (SCP-RP UK or SCP-RP USA): SCP-RP UK
What is the case against you?: Mixing, Speaking OOC in IC situations, Going onto the surface with OOC chat in mind, turning IC issues into OOC ones, Power Gaming.
Is this true?: Partially
Prior to this demotion, have you ever been demoted?: No.
Please list any previous roleplay demotion appeals: None.
What is your side of the story?:
I acknowledge that there have been instances where my actions were out of character during roleplay interactions. These instances were always prefaced with "Out of character but" in groups that had previously shown acceptance of such interruptions. Despite this, I was informed that numerous reports were filed against me, alleging that my behavior caused discomfort and anxiety among other departments when interacting with consultants. This feedback is surprising given that I have consistently strived to be friendly and calm with everyone I interact with.
I do not claim to be perfect, and I understand that mistakes can be made. However, the handling of this situation has been concerning. Despite multiple requests for evidence of these complaints, only me going to surface in OOC was provided. All other allegations have been conveyed to me verbally, without any tangible proof.
Moreover, I have observed that others who engage in similar "out of character" interactions have not been subjected to the same scrutiny. This inconsistency makes me feel unfairly singled out for behavior that is otherwise tolerated within our community.
Additionally, it was stated by Kayla that she had been mentoring me and another consultant over the past week on appropriate conduct. This assertion is inaccurate, as our interactions have been minimal and primarily centered around me providing her updates on my ongoing work, such as trainings and projects. There has been no significant guidance or mentorship from her end regarding my conduct.
Furthermore, I have spoken with other CL4 colleagues who expressed that the way my punishment, along with another consultant's, was handled seemed unwarranted and excessive. They noted that there has been no evidence of me making other departments anxious to interact with consultants, but rather the opposite.
Kayla mentioned that the other consultant and I turned in-character (IC) situations into out-of-character (OOC) ones, and the few situations were justified situations where a person felt targeted, even having brought up a Senior Moderator who also confirmed that the situations did warrant to look further into and wasn't just " making an IC situation OOC " . However, this has only happened twice in the past 1-2 weeks, yet the way it was presented made it seem like a constant issue.
Regarding the accusations of "power gaming," these instances occurred primarily between friends who were all in on the joke, except for one incident with an A-1 operative. After being told that I could not do that, I stopped using the "/me uses psychic abilities" command, as I had genuinely thought it was a joke. I have stated multiple times that it was a goof. I did not know at the time that the Thaumatologist is allowed to do that. There were many colleagues and friends who understood it was a joke, and I never pressured anyone to continue if they did not want to. After that incident I had already stopped doing the " /me uses psychic abilities " as I did not want to get into more trouble.
One major issue is that I was not handed any written warnings. Instead of piling up a lot of supposed complaints and waiting until the last minute to tell me about all the bad things I had supposedly done, a warning would have been very helpful. I thought everything was alright since I did not actively seek out to cause problems, and my actions were never malicious.
While I recognize that I have not been flawless, I believe the actions taken against me are based on unsubstantiated claims and a misrepresentation of my interactions. I am committed to improving and adhering to the expected standards of conduct, but I seek a fair evaluation based on transparent and concrete evidence.
Why should you return / what will you change?:
I have received considerable support from numerous colleagues, who have encouraged me to appeal the demotion. They were surprised by the decision, having often described me as one of the best consultants who enhanced the roleplay experience for everyone and made the Medbay/Medical an enjoyable place to be. Over my tenure, I have diligently worked on multiple projects, provided dozens of well-written documents and psychological evaluations, and engaged in many significant roleplay initiatives.
My commitment to the role has been evident through my contributions and the positive feedback from those I have interacted with. I have always taken responsibility for my actions, never becoming defensive about past mistakes, and have consistently sought to learn and improve from them.
Moving forward, I am dedicated to adhering more strictly to in-character conduct and will significantly reduce out-of-character (OOC) interactions. I recognize the importance of maintaining immersion and will make a conscious effort to avoid any behavior that could disrupt the experience for others. Specifically, I have already committed to avoiding actions such as going onto the surface in OOC, understanding the need to keep roleplay environments consistent and engaging. I will also further develop the habit to use /LOOC instead of voice OOC, as at the time I thought they were the same thing.
Returning to my position would allow me to continue contributing positively to our community, leveraging my experience and commitment to foster a more immersive and enjoyable roleplay environment. I am eager to apply the lessons I have learned and to demonstrate my dedication to upholding the standards expected of a consultant.
