What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

This would ban any form of Call To Arms announcements from NATO or the USSR

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:

Not that I know of?

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):

Less people muting the server and higher engagement with actual announcements.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

None, I've never seen a CTA actively bring more people online.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:

Engagement with announcements on the server is absolutely appalling and it's because of a huge influx of useless pings that have led to the majority of people either leaving or muting the server. The discord has something like over 700 people in it, and yet whenever I posted event announcements I'd get around 5-10 engagements.

There was also a consistent issue with players not knowing what was happening in events because they were entirely unaware there even was one. Not surprisingly, when I asked further about this, they had all muted the server.

Call To Arms pings don't work, and most of the time they're done with little to no effort. We even had one today of Aleem mentioning his own promotion. It's useless things like this that make players disengage and mute the server entirely.

The damage has already been done, but we could maybe at least try to prevent it further. Maybe allow it so that only SL can issue CTAs, and that NATO/USSR announcements are only used for relevant and important information.

Genuinely - the last time round as SGM it was such a frustrating time because I could not communicate with the players via event announcements. I had to constantly try to update them through mess-hall or in private.

Lastly - no I don't care about being pinged, doesn't bother me, what does bother me is that other people are bothered by it, and they just mute the server. It's likely the largest factor in why we can't get sufficient engagement with events anymore.

today is a prime example of it working, we hit 65+ people after the CTA (obviously not only because of the CTA) if its done rarely its not an issue however if its spammed without reason its understandable. stop being upset! ASX.png

The server becoming more popular during a wartime, or later on in the evening, is not because of your CTA.

You've not even addressed the primary point of the suggestion - it leading to a mass of people muting the server. Do you understand how frustrating it is trying to get people engaged with events and lore when they don't even have the server active to begin with?

I know CTA's don't work because I've been there, I've done my fair share of them and, at most, it will get a couple of people online.

The better alternative is the war conflict bot so people can actively see if there's a war or not.

Also, you're a head mod, replying 'stop coping' to a suggestion is unwarranted and a very poor reflection on your maturity.

I have the server fully muted because of these pings so I get your point its not a bad idea but they should be a thing for base raids but then you have to go into specifics, like can you call it if you own all points except 1? or 2?

also if cta pings were fully disallowed, I dont think anyone that has the server muted is gonna go out of their way to unmute

If you don't like getting pinged, mute the channel.
CTA may not work a crazy amount but if we want to do one we should be able to

fr i dont see peoples problem how else are we meant to let people know its war and should probably play

You're missing the point, it's not about me caring about pings. It'd be hypocritical for me to care given how many I've done for events etc.

The point is that people do mute the server, not just the channels. And that has a huge impact on event engagement because nobody reads event announcements or is even aware things are going on. Especially HC who were very poor at engaging with events last time round.

It's not about what you want to do, you should actively want the server to be healthy, and pointless CTAs don't do that. There's a bot that people can use to see the conflict status.

For things like base raids, sure they're fine because people actively get excited for them, but not for 'oh we nearly have the bottom lane but we have 3 people less than the other team!'

Take a look at event announcements and compare engagement from 2021 to today. People don't read the channel anymore. Speak to any member of the community, or old member and I'd place my bets that they have the server muted.

Again - the problem isn't 'hurr I don't like red [1]' because I don't care, what I do care about is people who do cope about it and just chose to mute the server. It kills events.

Yeah a blanket ban probably wouldn't be the best outcome, but maybe reserving them for base raids or something similar. Whenever the server gets pinged a player should ideally be seeing something exciting, like an event announcement, instead of a CTA. You'd have to make CTAs less common than events for that to happen
